I actually think that I would root for Serena. Ever since I saw the sisters documentary, cleverly called Venus and Serena, I have warmed ever so slightly to Serena. But Vika leaves me stone cold. She seems calculating all the time and a cheat some of the time.
Vika is actually much more popular around here I think. I guess she hasn't been around long enough and had enough exposure in North America to generate the hate Serena does. Vika is in general much more obnoxious on the court and much more tolerable off the court. Voted for Vika just because.
Because of her history of racially-charged comments to the media and her generally dismissive attitude toward her opponents. Also because of her father and because of the incident with the lineswoman at the US Open.
I hate Serena and I can't say that about a lot of people. The way she treats people and for years never gave any of her opponents credit made me turn against her really quickly, and the way she acted towards that line judge at the US Open against Clijsters showed exactly what she is all about. I like Vika's game but don't like the grunting. I guess when it comes down to it, I don't watch any matches when Serena is involved but will watch Vika occasionally.
I have nothing against Serena. I'm just tired of the US networks insistence on pandering to her at all times. I've seen US coverage pull away from a compelling mid-tier match to go to a Serena sparring session too many times to count now. It really grates.
I also enjoy the butt hurt Vika's success encourages in some of her haters. Unless she's playing Li Na, who is too awesome for words.
