Yep, you read that right, CCM/Reebok has brought back the free AHL tickets promotion so gettem while they're hot.

http://en.rbkhockey.com/community/promonights/

It's ironic how they brought back the free AHL tickets promotion on the same day the NHL season was officially cancelled .

Interesting timing. With the AHL now being the top hockey league in the country, why offer free tickets now? If people are going to go, the AHL is the place that they will go.

Honestly, I don't think that $10-25 ticket prices is something that would keep someone from going to an AHL game.

That is effing brilliant of the AHL.

Buh-bye NHL! I'm turning off the porch light and locking the door now. I waited up for you to come home, but I guess you have left for good.

Why is this brilliant? I could be wrong, but the majority of the people that are going to use these tickets are already AHL customers already.

If Reebok thinks that they are going to attract NHL fans to the AHL game by offering free tickets, I think they are mistaken. If the NHL fan can afford $50 tickets, they certainly can afford $10-25 tickets.

Just as a small example, Flyers STHs were given free vouchers for Phantoms games and, if attendance is any indication, it seems like they have gone unused for the most part.

Nice, I got mine for the March 9th.

Don't know if I'll be able to go though, but having 2 tickets makes it a lot easier for me to go!

NHL fans (like myself that regularily bought season tickets) think it is the cream of the crop and if it is available will purchase tickets if we can afford it. That much is true. But, I hadn't been to an AHL game before the last free offer and got to see the Rampage in a brand new arena with fans that are much more vocal and more casual (read: not a bunch of suits discussing business deals) about it all than at any NHL game I have been to (playoff games excluded).

I thoroughly enjoyed myself despite going in with the mindset that it would be crap hockey, crappy south texas hockey fans etc. etc. etc.

I couldn't have been more wrong. I took three other people, two of which had NEVER been to a game before. They bought tickets to another game immediately after (one immediately developed a crush on one of the players).

My point is that by announcing this on the day the NHL is cancelled is brilliant marketing because when it comes to hockey, the best way to market it is to have someone watch a game. I'd be willing to bet that at least 50 percent of people receiving free tickets will turn around and purchase tix for another game.

It also gives families a chance to take the clan to a game (two of us signed up minutes apart and got seats side by side) and introduce hockey to a younger generation.

It is brilliant any way you slice it.

I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one. I don't think that offering free tickets to a game that already has affordable tickets is going to attract that many new fans.

Again, I can only site Philadelphia as an example, but free tickets there has done virtually nothing for attendance for the Phantoms.

Kinda yes and kinda no.I played soccer all of my life, since about age 4. I didnt even hear about hockey until I was 7 and I was won free tickets to an AHL game at one of my soccer banquets. From then on, I(and in the process, my mother) became hooked on playing and watching the sport.
