I support starting the draft clock early next week. By that time we should have everything in order. Also are we going to be using the same draft order that was determined last week or are we going with another random draft order (Assuming Option 1 wins).

Exhibit A as to how hockey doesn't matter on ESPN:
Last night an ESPN program was discussing how the Detroit Pistons needed a hero citing the heroes on the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and no mention of the Detroit Red Wings. All this despite the Red Wings probably being the most succesful team in Detroit right now.

I actually really like VI's idea of making Saturday the 19th (the first day of the actual NHL season) the first day of the draft. Why don't we have the draft order and all the rules finalized by Jan 19th and allow GMs to start swapping draft positions and making picks? But it's too early to officially start the clock - you need some leeway between when everything is finalized and when the clock starts running. If we can get everything else together by the 19th, we'll officially start the clock on Wednesday Jan 23.

How does that sound?
Definitely start the draft before the clock, gives everyone a few days to get settled down and primed before their first round selection. I like a Saturday start as well.

No point in waiting 4 days.Monday 21th sounds better but I won't make a scene for such a minor differance so everything is fine with me.
How are these for the rules? It's a copy and paste job of the ATD2012 rules modified with the changes we made.
Quote:
1). The draft will last 25 rounds. You must draft 2 goalies, 6 defensemen, 12 forwards, a coach and 4 extra picks.
2). The time windows will be tight but reasonable.
12 hour clock for the first two rounds, (sending a shortlist to another GM highly encouraged here)
then 10 hour clock for rounds 3-6,
then 8 hour clock for rounds 7-14,
then 6 hour clock for rounds 15-20,
then 4 hour clock for rounds 21-25
One hour time window deduction for each skipped pick (two hour deduction for missing a 12 hour clock - leave a list), with a minimum 4 hour clock guaranteed regardless of deductions.
3). Trades
Trading is to be reasonably fair and balanced and lopsided trades will need to be re-worked or dropped. This is at the discretion of the trade committee.
Each team may make up to 8 trades.
A submitted trade counts towards the maximum, even if it is vetoed (exception - first time GMs). Don't submit lopsided trades.
No more than 4 assets per team may be traded at a time.
Swapping all positions before the draft doesn't count as a "trade" for the purposes of the above rules.
Trading while on the clock is allowed. However, using your entire clock to openly shop a pick annoys your fellow GMs, so do it sparingly. If GMs abuse trading on the clock, a rule could be added against it
4). At the conclusion of the draft, there will be a 10 day period for lineup assassinations. Assassinations will be divided by division.
5). Regular season rankings MUST BE VOTED ON by at least one GM (if the team is co-GM'd) per team. The penalty if not done is a potential lowering in the standings because each GM will rank his own team first. Co-GMs who both vote each get half a vote for the regular season rankings in their own division.
6). All Teams make the playoffs. Playoffs will be cross-divisional - Seed 1 will face Seed 4 from the adjacent division, and Seed 2 will face Seed 3 from the adjacent division.
7). REGULAR SEASON AND PLAYOFF VOTING TO BE A SET RESPONSIBILITY.
A lottery can probably occur now today. What time do we want something like this?
And to go along with a lottery later today, We can probably set divisions as well. And then after divisions are set, we can give a certain period of time (I don't know how long that will be because I'm not really someone who wants to) to switch divisions if you want to.
We can then begin drafting at least by Saturday at 12 EST I'd imagine, and we can say the clock starts at 12 EST on Tuesday?
let's wait for TDMM , he is the one in communication via pm with the last few teams and the situation was unclear yesterday , after that we can do the lottery right away and set the divisions.
And to go along with a lottery later today, We can probably set divisions as well.
Alternating conferences formula:
1st overall team is assigned to the Foster Hewitt Division
2nd overall team is assigned to the Bob Cole Division
3rd overall team is assigned to the Jim Robson Division
4th overall team is assigned to the Rene Lecavalier Division
5th overall team is assigned to the James Creighton Division
6th overall team is assigned to the Ray Scapinello Division
7th overall team is assigned to the Louis Magnus Division
8th overall team is assigned to the Sam Pollock Division
REPEAT for 9th-16th overall, then 17th-24th, then 25th-32nd

48 hours ought to do. I'll PM everyone their draft order once sturminator randomizes and posts it (which he'll do after the last sign-up is confirmed, right?)

Yup...just waiting to see how things shake out with the rookies.
The lottery will consist of my wife picking names out of a hat, so all complaints about draft position can be directed to someone who really, truly does not give a ****.
