Giroux because he also provides 2-way play at far less of a cost.

You might has well have asked what position they play.

Welcome to HF where every center in the NHL > every winger in the NHL.

You don't watch him play in any way shape or form.

Giroux AINEC, mainly due to the length of Kovalchuk's contract.

Lower cap hit, younger, RFA after contract, better 2-way game. Kovalchuk has only goal scoring over him. Both are elite players though. If I had a 24 yr old Kovy, I'd probably choose him.

I also believe with the addition of Nash, Giroux fills a bigger whole in the lineup.as the superstar center. Richards is the perfect 2nd line center and Stepan 3rd line center while Boyle pivots the 4th line.

With Kovalchuk, you have a huge logjam on the wings.

Now if we're talking about the Rangers that's different. Out wing depth is better than our center depth.

Good question and I didn't know until I asked to myself: Would I trade Kovalchuk for Giroux (and his 2 way game) ?

I wouldn't do it. 1 way to say no way.

Not sure why people are citing two way play as the reason for taking Giroux. Kovy plays a much better two way game. Giroux isn't a liability on defense or anything, but he's really just average on defense in my opinion.

I'd take Kovy for a year but Giroux for the future because I thinK G has more room for improvement. Good poll

It really depends on what kind of player you want. Kovalchuk will provide more goals, but Giroux is a better playmaker. Both are pretty average defensively, with the slight edge maybe going to Kovalchuk. I went with the homer vote and took Giroux because he's one of my favorite players, but you can't go wrong with taking either. Ilya is an absolute horse and he totally impressed me with his performance in the playoffs.

As far as value, I would give Giroux the slight edge. He's younger and a number one center versus a top winger.

For the Devils I'd rather keep Kovalchuk. If we were to trade Kovy for Giroux, our RW depth would be atrocious.

The Habs could use a certified first line Center. But I much prefer Kovalchuk to Giroux. Kovy is one of my favorite players ever. So I'd go with Kovalchuk.

Giroux due to age, but just for one year it would be Kovy.
