He certainly plays a less risky game than Jake Gardiner, which he shouldn't considering he is 5 years younger than Jake.

At times it looks like Jake is the 19 year old rookie out there this preseason and Morgan is the 24 year old.

I think he is going to be trusted more by the coaching staff as we move forward.
Jake is 4 years older than Morgan.

He could be talking about Holzer or Brennen. Both guys on one-way deals that can play in the NHL.

He could be but I can't imagine there's anyone who watched Leaf camp/preseason who would argue for either of those two to be in over Rielly. Percy and MacWilliam at least made good cases.

Reilly looked really good in his first NHL period. Made confident/crisp passes, and looked good on the rush. Was a -2, but honestly, his partner Franson had an atrocious period.

Yep I liked what I saw. Only thing was on the first goal he didn't take a look before sending it up the boards, winger was late getting there, and it ended up as a goal. But he was under pressure when he made the pass along with it being one of his first NHL shifts.

At least there is a reasonable poster who sees the truth.

His play has been great despite his stats( which is mainly due to Franson's awful night).

I would kill to have this kid on Flyers. Timonen isn't getting younger and Rielly would be a great addition.

You can blame his partner for that, Franson has had a terrible game.

On the PP, Reilly opted for a long pass to Franson on the other side and turns it over, making it almost a 2 on 0 the other way. Luckily Bernier was there to bail him out. Honestly don't think Reilly is ready for the NHL. Still has some work to do defensively. He can skate very well though with some good breakout passes.

Yeah big mistake on that pass. THought he looked very good outside of that though. I think his comfort levels will just increase with every game and will get better.

Great debut. He's a rookie and he made a couple mistakes but wow did he have flashes of brilliance.

I admit, he looked a lot better at the end of the third period. Had a great offensive chance in OT. Very interesting to see if he makes it past the 9 games.

Yeah, he looked much better towards the end. Didn't look out of place. He will get the next several games to assert himself while Fraser is out

Morgan Rielly was pretty darn good for his first game. Had a couple of good rushes...I really don't think he was responsible for any of the three goals that went in when he was on the ice. His worst pass was probably the one where he tried to pass to Franson across the blue line with MacArthur ready to pounce on it. Rookie mistake but his goalie bailed him out there.

I like what I see...I really don't think he should be sent down. I hope they keep him up here even if he plays only ~50 games and release him to go to the WJC in December.

Rielly looked a lot better than that incredibly unflattering stat-line suggests.

Yea, he made a bad play, but lets not forget that this is a 19 year old defencemen playing in his first NHL game, he'll make mistakes. But other than that he was pretty solid, I think his defensive game is good, he's not a guy that'll lay players out, but he positions well and uses his stick well. Of course he still has to grow his defensive game, and I'm sure he can do that at the NHL level. He was solid tonight.

If you watched the game he was very good for a guy playing his first career game. He does a lot of the little things that players like him won't get credit for. Tying up the guys stick, positioning to angle himself, keeping the puck in the blue line.

But man, can he skate. The guy is a breakout and zone-entry machine.
