Hats off to the Chiefs today, and even the Panthers. Regardless of what you think of the situation or the people, there's no book on what the right thing to do about today is. Everyone just tried to do what they thought the right thing was, and did the best they could.

He did have head injuries.
Head injuries =/= mental issues, which is what the poster I was responding to seemed to be implying.

Yikes.

I was of the belief that he was fighting and didn't mean to kill her..but did anyhow.

Still possible as he doesn't realize what he has done until after the fact and opts to kill himself. I don't think he had any intention of shooting up the Chiefs practice facility either.

This isn't exactly Chris Benoit, when it was known he was beating his wife for years prior. Brain injuries or not.

Still a piece of trash for hitting and eventually killing his girlfriend. Way too easy to blame this on playing football though at this stage.

But I feel for his family and teammates..who obviously weren't that in touch with his personal life and are basing their feelings on the person they thought they knew

That says more about insecurity and anger issues than brain injuries.

Not every incident should be linked to the effects of playing football.

No one used that excuse for Rae Carruth

Rae Carruth is simply a bad guy though. After trying to kill his kid, he then tried to get custody.

I agree

I think brain injuries has nothing to do with this and that more we find out about Belcher the more this as a jealousy/domestic abuse situation is developing

That guy is a freaking monster ,, Thank God the courts refused to throw out his GF's recorded 911 calls

The fact he will get out of prison in less then 6 years is terrible

It would have gotten more spotlight if moved sure, but you said the media only want it moved so they can drag it out, as if now that the game is over, people are going to just move on and forget about it.

Sports Illustrated just recently did a story on that whole thing updating on the son's condition. How Cherica Adam's mother deals with all of that without hatred is beyond me.

And if that story is true that he was dealing with pain killers, booze, and head injuries (or even just 2 of 3), I'd like to know who exactly knew about that but kept quiet.

I actually read it the other day because Bruce Arthur tweeted it in the aftermath of this

The SI vault guy did earlier in the week (a good twitter follower I must say, though he mostly does pictures). Pretty sad the kid looks like him, but maybe like the article notes it'll make Carruth basically look at himself with Cherica Adam's eyes.

Is kinda strange that the Chiefs opponent was the Panthers, Carruth's old team.

We won't ever really know the story regarding Belcher. His teammates have spoken well of him and he was a positive role model up until yesterday for young kids.

Why anyone would fondly remember someone who did that is, like I just said, extremely puzzling and misguided. Fortunately, those people do seem to be in the minority.
Did the NHL not support Craig MacTavish after he murdered a young woman? Does no one remember fondly of his playing career? When he dies, will he be remembered fondly? Why is Myles Belle getting so much sympathy after killing someone?

Why do we celebrate drunk driving as nothing more than a petty crime in this country?

BTW I also hope you don't like rap music either. Because their culture supports domestic violence and violence.

You seem angry. The truth of the matter is, yes, if he was someone else no one would remember him but that's the nature of the sport. Football players, sports in general, tend to hoist common people into the spotlight. We crave this sort of thing as a society and for that, it is our own doing.

Now, I am assuming you have no Earthly idea of mental illnesses, you are still very naive in terms of psychology, or simply have no idea what you're talking about. For me, I rather not judge. It's not my place nor do I have little input in the matter. I am not a Chiefs fan. I did not know him. The only sort of link I even have is the fact that Jamaal Charles was the running back to my favorite college team. So I have no connection to this issue and as someone that doesn't follow the Chiefs, I really have no say in this matter.

It's a tragic situation all around.

.
Sure I'm angry, some things are worth getting angry over. Can't just sit back and feel superior and detached from the world all the time.

I may have no earthly idea about mental illness, be naive about psychology and/ or have no idea what I'm talking about, but you seem pretty passive aggressive about the whole thing ( maybe there is something you don't want to admit to yourself?).

According to Peter King, Belcher said "Thank's for everything. I love you bro..." to Pioli then pulled the trigger.

Tragic that 2 lifes were taken. But, that scares me. It shows that he was in a clear state of mind when he committed suicide. He wasn't crazy, he had the ability to go to the practice field and thank his coach and GM.

Seems as though he made the decision, opposed to really being messed up.

Shooting his GF nine times also makes it seem a little premeditated.

The entirety of the coverage is a joke. As is the public's craving for it.

Trash like Bob Costas doesn't help.

Yeah. If he would have done it immediately following that, it would seem as though he went off the deep end. This way it seems like he realized what he had done and knew he had no way of getting out of it. To me, it was really selfish to do it in front of Crennel and Pioli.
