How does this guy have nearly a 1:1 ratio of TDs to interceptions?
Great point, some backing numbers. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/foo...ng_splits.html

Ponder have attempted 31 passes of >20 yards. He completed only 4 of them.

He has nearly 4 times as many passes thrown behind the line of scrimmage as he does downfield. He isn't even dink-and-dunk. He is just dink. But it this way... Adrian Peterson is average almost half a yard more per carry than Ponder is per pass attempt.

He's a game manager at best.
Well he has some downfield WR threats but they can't catch LOL.

I've always found it difficult to catch a ball underthrown by 5-15 yards.

He's gotten the ball to his receivers on occasion and they've dropped it.

You have to back that up with some proof. Aromashodu didn't make a play on a nice deep pass Ponder threw a couple weeks ago but that's the only one I can remember. I know the receivers have dropped a bunch of short passes but when the deep passes are incomplete, it's usually because Ponder made a poor throw or the defender prevented the completion.

Some of you may disagree but I'm still taking Ponder over Weeden. I don't like either one of them but at least Ponder has the age and running ability going for him.

Sorry was thinking of Simpson and those were slants. And Burton but you're right I think Burton has dropped a few short passes. I can remember Simpson and Burton though dropping some deep balls. Was thinking of the Chicago game where the receivers were horrendous.

He is terrible at the deep ball but I always find that he doesn't trust his receivers enough to throw a deep enough pass because they are dropping the slants.

Coming out, he looked like he could put some air under the ball and throw but he just never really developed. Vikings need a new coach for quarterback. Ponder had a lot to work with but they just could never develop him.

Interesting based off SI splits:

Ponder has under thrown 8 passes but has overthrew 30. Then again his passes wide is at 25.

Dalton has 39 passes overthrown, 2 underthrew and 29 thrown wide.

Whether Ponder has a noodle arm or not, doesn't change the fact the Vikings have no down field playmaker. A Sidney Rice would help out Ponder immensely cause you could just throw it up and hope he bails you out like he did so many times for Favre in '09.

Jenkins or Aromashodu couldn't separate from me. And Jenkins might be slower than our TEs and DA has terrible ball skills.
Simpson's game is:
1. Run deep
2. Flop on ground hoping for PI.
3. ???
4. Profit.
Wright has the speed to get deep but I don't consider him a "threat" by any means.
Stephen Burton? LOL.

Even Harvin isn't a deep threat.

Whoever is the QB next year whether that's Ponder, Webb, some veteran or some rookie is gonna need help at the WR position.

Vikings could get a really dangerous offense going next year if they put Webb in. It's not like they use a QB to throw difficult passes anyways, so why not put a guy in that does something else REALLY well. Imagine having to account for Peterson, Harvin, and then a QB that is a threat to run it to the house on any play?

The quarterback play can't get much worse for the Vikings but going into next season with Webb as the starter will definitely make it worse. He can't pass at all. I doubt he can even complete the 5-10 yard passes Ponder throws to Harvin ten times per game.

Ponder actually managed the game fairly well today, although the defense is what won the game for them. Smothered the Texans offense.

Still hard to believe Dilfer has a Super Bowl ring.

Ponder wasn't bad at all today. He had that fumble but didn't really make any stupid passes, made a few nice ones. His completion % did dip a lot in the second half that.

He admit on the great catch by Simpson he was trying to throw it away but his arm got hit.

It was all thanks to his new bride.

Efficient first half for Ponder. Maybe there is hope. Maybe.

He is nowhere near as bad as Sanchez. Sanchez could never make some of throws Ponder did today. Even the ones where they were wide open .

In the past 2 weeks, he led his team to a road win in Houston, one of the tougher venues in the NFL & a do or die win against a high quality Packers team that they actually had to match score for score in order to get the win & the playoff berth. I think we can put this thread to bed now.
