The Forks works as well as anything, really. I don't think Winnipeg has any sort of Lookout Point, unless you're on the lookout for thugs in the North End.
Back in my day it was behind the old chuck e cheese building, which turned into some indoor sun glasses wearing doosh bag hangout or something now, lol.
Anybody ever listen to the back hand shelve podcast? They did a wjc week of podcasts with different hosts. Multiple times they laughed at Scheifele and stated how terrible of a hockey player he is and how often he falls down. Was quite shocked they had that opinion. Though they also referee to Yakupov as useless. They're very Toronto-nian.
When CBA signed and GMs given instructions on new rules - Jets will recall C Mark Scheifele from OHL for training camp. #bn #NHLJets
Cool. I seriously doubt they keep him up, even if he knocks their socks off, as I'm not sure I'd burn a year of his ELC, but if he can get a few more games in before heading back to Barrie, that'd be great.
Not even going to predict what happens regarding the IceCaps and the playoffs this year - if they get in, I'm assuming that he'll get another stint there after the OHL playoffs are done.
Scheif needs to improve his balance before he makes it to the show.
Watching him fall all over the ice reminded me of Stu Barnes. When he was first in the NHL he couldn't skate over the blueline without tripping.
Yup. His top-end speed is acceptable for the NHL now, just needs to work on strength on skates / balance, and first step. That said, watching him in the OHL this year (every game), he hasn't been anywhere near as off-balance as he's appeared during this WJC. Strange.
That said, even if he doesn't improve this area, if he plays as well as #hartnelldown he'll do OK.
Jon Merrill (New Jersey prospect) played his first game for Michigan since his injury in the pre-season... although it was as a PP specialist in a exhibition game against USNTDP...
Can't wait to see him paired with Trouba as originally planed. They will be a solid duo and this bodes well for Trouba (better D partner that he was on fire with originally) and Serville (will get whomever Trouba would normally been with).
He'll do ok ... we just want and should expect better than ok .
Oh, I'm in total agreement with you. He's definitely got some work to do - for me, the things he brings to the table are: high hockey IQ, good hands, he always seems to be in a good spot to score, his passing is string, and he has a huge will to win. These are tough to teach.
Skating can be improved - he's already better than he was last year - I hope to heck he works on it further in the off-season. If he can improve in that area, I can't see him being any less than a very good 2C, with potential 1C upside. Time will tell.
The interview begins roughly 2/3 of the way through the podcast.
We had a few posts about his position , this interview clarifies that he moved to C in December. Looks like he is playing there and will be but imo he is a better LW and will likely be viewed as that in the Jets plans.
Smart kid overall, scholastic player of the year plus he is a coaches son ( former NHL player too of course ) so he gets it , to be sure.
Adam Lowry scored twice in the third period and once in the shootout to lift the Swift Current Broncos to a 3-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday night. The Broncos Captain came back after a 10 minute misconduct in the second period to extend his point scoring streak to 17 games.
"You're seeing just a special player," said Broncos Assistant Coach Darren Evjen. "It's hard to find a 6'5 guy with hands that's mean, plays so hard and competes. You can't say enough about how he plays. He does so much for us, he's our leader, and tonight he really led the way."
He also took a roughing minor in the first and a cross checking penalty at the same time that he was assessed the 10 minute misconduct in the second!
What does everyone see as Lowry's NHL comparable at this point? 6' 5", good skating (he's greatly improved in this area), drops the gloves, good hands, hits. Quite a nice resume.
Think it was PS241 who initially compared him to Jim Peplinski ... that I think is a real good former player to suggest what Lowry can be , maybe even better to be honest.
