Denmark's efforts ... all for naught ??

two games. two potential wins. two opportunities passed by.

somewhat disheartening for me. Liked what I saw from them against Russia. They went up 2-0 and I was like "holy ****" can this really be happening?

looking at the standings now the only way Denmark stands a chance is Russia beats the Czechs in regulation and they pick up at least point against a Swiss.

Otherwise it's fight against Germany just to stay alive.

what do you think. Is it their time to bow out?

I think Russia beating the Czechs is almost a given at this point. I can see Denmark playing well enough to take the Swiss to overtime.
Bottom line, they aren't out of it yet.

It's pretty simple. Win and they're in.

They should be able to beat Germany in the relegation round but that's it.

Another interesting scenario:

Swiss beat Denmark in regulation tomorrow. Then, they beat the Swedes (who have nothing to play for) in regulation the next day. Pick up 6 points, finish with 9.

The Russians can finish with a maximum of 8.

Could set up a Slovakia v Switzerland quarter-final.

I was at their game vs. Czech today and man was it ever exciting. Although they were getting outplayed, the Canadian support for the Danes was really cool, I really wanted them to pull it off. Sorenson was putting on a show! It's hard to win games when you only have one line working though.

I could see the Danes picking up a point against Switzerland. Russia will likely beat the Czechs in regulation too. The Czechs could possibly be off to the relegation round.

They have a good chance vs. the Swiss, pretty even matchup, will probably beat Germany if it comes to it, assuming Germany doesn't upset Slovakia tomorrow.

The germans are a complete garbage team so they would easily beat them.

If any team can upset Sweden, it's Switzerland. They always seem to scare teams who are much better than the Swiss, but they can never finish the upset with a win. Let's see if they manage to do it this year.

Say what, the Swiss scare teams who are much better than themselves?

The final game is not meaningless for the Swedes if the Swiss beat Denmark. If Switzerland beats Sweden in that case, they'll win the group, because both of them will sit at 9 and the game between them will decide. In that scenario, the Swiss most likely draw Finland. However, Slovakia can fall to 4th in the other side if they lose to Germany - but in that case Finland must not beat Germany in regulation or they're out altogether.

However, they can finish 2nd (and draw 3rd seed Slovakia) if Russia either loses to Czechs in regulation or both RUS-CZE and SWE-SUI go to OT and Switzerland wins their game.

Either way, it's possible, but far from a likely scenario.

---

As far as the thread topic goes, the tournament would suck even more for the Danes if Finland somehow manages to lose to Germany...

If Sweden beats Switzerland tomorrow and Russia beats Czech Republic (both in regulation) does that mean Denmark is 3rd?

At this point I would say that SUI and CZE losing in regulation is the likely scenario but anything can happen.

Looking at the table,
3. Denmark 4pts (better h2h vs Swiss)
4. Switzerland 4pts
5. Czech Rep 2pts (1 game to go)

this means that if Czechs loose, they are out of quarters
this means that if Czechs win in regulation and Swiss loose to Swedes, Swiss are out of quarters
this means that if Czechs win in overtime and Swiss loose to Swedes we have 3 teams with 4pts, where Danes have 3pts from mutual games, Swiss 3 pts, Czechs 2pts, meaning Czechs are out

only acceptable scenario for Czechs is to win in regulation

oh and Danes are out if Swiss don't loose to Swedes in regulation and Czechs win

If the Swiss get a point against Sweden, Czechs are 4th. If Sweden beats Switzerland in regulation, Czechs are 5th. Czechs have the tiebreaker against Denmark, but not in a 3-way tie.

I can't pick much difference between Denmark, Switzerland and Czech Republic so far. And the results certainly show it.
