For those who don't know what it is, its an event where after the first goal the fans toss teddy bears for charity. Now we know how the NHL cracked down on the rat toss in Florida after the first goal or the octopus in general in Detroit so I don't know how they'd feel about stopping a game cold for it. But it would be an interesting promotion. I know I'd trek over to an Islander home game with a bear or two from NJ to participate so it'd create buzz as a promotion.
I was watching the Norfolk Hershey game the other day and they had their teddy bear toss. Game was 3-0 Norfolk and after Hershey scored to make it 3-1 the fans tossed the toys. Took like 15 minuets to clear the ice. The stoppage killed any momentum Hershey may have had.
I would say no because of the time it takes and to do it and to do it during intermission would be no fun.
It's for charity, the idea that it is "dangerous" is ridiculous. The NHL should have started it years ago. After all if the fans they want in their building are paying for a $100 dollar ticket I'm sure they can buy a stuffed animal
Whenever this current lockout (aka Theater of Pain 2012-2013) comes to an end, I think the league should allow us to throw whatever we want on the ice for the first 5 minutes. As for me, I'm throwing tacos. It could be some sort of peace offering...
"Yeah, we know your pretty ticked off at us so here ya go, 5 minutes to pelt the ice with whatever you want..."
; )
Seriously though, I think this would be awesome.... I mean it's Teddy Bears...for charity.
wouldn't it make more sense to have big bins to put the bears in so that it doesn't delay the game and none of the bears get waterlogged from lying on the ice?
1)Sorry charitiy, no bears for you. Fans walk out of the arena with their bears?
2)Throw them after the game? Our team lost, lets throw them at the visiting team when they celebrate.
