I really like Sauer, but nobody should trade for him at this point. His health is a real issue.

Toronto lacks shutdown defenseman/ shot blockers. NY has an influx and probably wont want to pay his salary demands.

Aren't teams not allowed to trade injured players without their approval?

1. Sauer is damaged goods. His health comes #1 and he shouldn't be playing for anybody unless he is up to it.

2. Assuming he is, but may not be 100-110%, just good enough to go, and he wants out of NY for whatever reason, a deal is do-able.

3. In that event, as quality but not exceptional player with injury prone history, price would be lower mid pick(s) upgradeable depending upon performance, eg. a future 6th upgradeable to a future 5th or a 5th and a 4th.Prospect ok if we can agree.

4. Most likely scenario would be throw-in. What do you want for Gardiner that I might be willing to pay, and not really a pivotal part of that deal given his injury status, Rangers nevertheless through in Sauer, only benefiting from moving salary.

Honestly, if Sauer ever becomes 100% healthy and still shows the same signs of a solid player that he was before the injury, this would be a solid trade, he is exactly the type of player we need in out top 4 that we lack.

I wouldn't mind risking someone like Ashton for him as well, don't see much in him, maybe 1 3rd liner at best.

the future d-core would look awesome with a healthy Sauer beside Gardiner, think:

Rielly - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Sauer
Liles - Gunnarsson
Holzer

Everyone hates komisarek (i do most of the time) but i feel if the leafs somehow made it to the playoffs, he would be the type of player that steps up when its crucial (blocked shots, hard hits, tough around the net ect)

Optimistic i know, but he is the shutdown guy we already have in the system.

Will take any of the deals as Sauer's career is finished imo.

Too bad, he was a top tier shutdown player when he was healthy.

I would be EXTREMELY hesitant if I were Burke doing this type of deal. We have seen Sather do this before.

This is the type of trade that's hard to predict because it would have to involve team doctors and such examining Sauer and reporting back to Burke. I think he'd be a great fit in Toronto if healthy though.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. Last report out of the Sauer camp was he was feeling better. His career is far from over.

Only deal I see is Sauer as a throw-in for Gardiner. Can Gardiner play the right side? He'd be good for our struggling powerplay, but I don't know what Sather would move for him.

And the Leafs will throw in Ranger in a deal for Staal

Throw in for what exactly? Because if you have not realized it were pretty hyped about Gardiner these days.

If you're adding Stepan then Burke might not hang up the phone.

I only do the MacArthur one, as he will be replaced by Frattin anyway and is a UFA.

Anyway, I see this as a non-starter. If Sauer isn't healthy this is obviously worthless for the Leafs. If he is healthy nothing there really entices me enough to move Sauer.

The problem is, we don't have 6 starting D-men without Sauer, and we didn't sign one. So either the Rangers think he's coming back, or the Rangers are stupid enough to think Stu Bickel is a starter, let's hope it's the former.

That being said, I could do the MacArthur trade if you throw in Komisarek, and to sweeten the pot we can add a pick or another forward. Bounce some ideas off me...

Komisarek

MacArthur

Sauer (assumed healthy)

If he's healthy, sure. I doubt the Rangers do that though, they'd be taking Komisarek who might be very good with them (I think he would). The other player they get is an easily replaceable free agent winger. If Sauer is healthy, he's a pretty good second pairing kind of guy, can play with Gardiner.

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Sauer

Looks pretty good, certainly a much better fit for Gardiner than Komisarek. We'd also make our d core younger, while not sacrificing any skill.
