Really? we are talking a franchise defenseman, we aren't talking Zach Bogosian

Jones is clearly #1 at the moment, and outside of him losing a leg won't drop below #2.

I wish there was some way we could get one of those picks without having a bad shortened season.

While I agree that Jones is #1 right now on most scouts boards (as he should be) there is still a lot of hockey left to be played. To be quite honest the Portland Winterhawks and Halifax (Drouin and MacKinnon) appear to be on a collision course for the Memorial Cup finals, Now THAT would be a huge series and heavily watched by all scouts.

I dont think it will happen, but if Jones lays an egg and plays crumby in the playoffs and Douin and/or MacKinnon rip it up then things can change. This is not set in stone.

But if your asking me, Im taking a defenceman that size with those skills and intellect #1 anytime I get a chance.

If Mack goes #1 we could trade our entire draft for the 2nd overall, just a thought

I would love one of the big boys at the top but the top 10 is still good....

Pulock
Shinkruak
Risto
Nurse

I wouldnt be mad if we ended up with onyone of them...

Why are all you Debbie Downers talking about the #1 pick? We're winning the cup this year

Call me a sucker, but I really expect the isles to be closer to 10th overall, then the 1st overall pick. I expect the defense to be improved and for Nabokov to carry the bulk of the goaltending.

I really wanted the Isles to draft Trouba after I saw him play at the wjc last year, I knew he was going to be a beast.

so your giving up on Reinhart 7 months after we drafted him?

I liked Trouba too but Reinhart gives us everything we need as far as what he could potentially be...

@TSNBobMcKenzie: NYI likely to have Ryan Strome and Griffin Reinhart in camp altho final decision on that is still pending.

Snow should really leave Griff in juniors, no discussion at all. But it's so tempting to bring Strome up to play 2C...

The Islanders have 3 healthy defensemen to start the season, now that the lockout looks to be settled, they need 7. My guess is Donovan and Wishart are promoted to the NHL, and Kichton is signed to a pro contract to replenish Bridgeport. Griffin Reinhart has to be considered an option pending other signings. (Haven't heard if new CBA would allow him to play in Bridgeport).

Where do you get three? As far as I know Streit/Lubo/Amac/Carkner are fine and Hamonic is going to start skating again this week. The problem is that none of the other defensemen are even close to be NHL ready.

I know Carkner was dealing with some injuries last year, hopefully he's fully healed for the delayed season. As long as he can play 3rd pairing minutes, I am very happy he's around to curb some of the shenanigans towards Johnny and the other kids. I think the psychological aspect of his presence can't be quantified.

Please just keep Griff and Strome in Juniors. To me it's a waste to take them from their teams at this point.

Agreed, let them continue their development in peace without having to stress over being in the NHL or not. Make the decision for them and tell them to stay put, both need the extra time anyway.

From what I know, Strome and Reinhart aren't on that NHL recall list, right? Seems like there is still some confusion over that, me included.

and while we're keeping Strome & Reinhart in juniors, keep Nino in the AHL.

No excuses and of course you would prefer to score those 6 points in the last three games as opposed to the first 3 games, but judging performances ion the WJC by Point production is silly. Strome was present and created opportunities in every game this tournament. The US-Canada semi-final may be the exception but the entire time mailed it in that game. That is among the many questions Coach Steve Spott should be asking himself, he made a lot of odd choices.
I agree with you. Strome had a very good tourney. He seemed to make things happen every game. Disappointing he did not get more PP time and a look on the top line when they were pressing for goals.

He did take some bad penalties in key moments that hurt the club.

He does need to get stronger but he has great hockey sense.

The recall list below is from Sept., but it does have both Strome and Reinhart listed.

NY Islanders: Ryan Strome, Griffin Reinhart

The Islanders love the 9 game tryout in an 82 game format. They get to use a player for almost 11% of the schedule without burning a year from the ELC. You can be sure that they will Love it even more with a 48 game schedule (almost 19% of the season).

If you throw common sense out the window and replace it with Wangonomics..... Expect tryouts for both Strome and Reinhart.

One thing for sure, if the Islanders keep Strome in junior, Niagara will trade him since Hamilton
is going to Boston. OHL trade deadline, January 10.

Don't be suprised or upset is Frans Nielsen is our second line center for one more year. I'm not sure the Isles want to burn the first year of Strome's entry-level contract on a 50 game season. I feel like it's going to be hard for him to get off on the right foot in a shortened training camp. Nino did not get off on the right foot with his injury and it hurt his ability to get icetime; I don't want to see that happen to Strome. Let him finish the season in the OHL, get dealt to a contender, and get some vaulable minutes in playoff hockey.

We have 3-4 centers in Bridgeport that have been playing professional hockey this year and are ready to go. Lets find out what these players are all about.
