He is starting to get a lot of exposure and I like him more and more as that increases.
I've been really impressed with Drouin too and I'd be very happy with him. The Isles have the most depth up the middle and on defense in the system. Aside from Nino, we are generally lacking on the wings.

The nice thing is though that the Isles should just pick BPA no matter what the position (except goalie if it's a top-15 pick) this year. The cupboard is getting pretty full, we've had enough picks to do it.

Unless he changes his style of play, I have doubts that he'll ever be much of a goal scorer. He's a playmaker at heart and just isn't one that has that 'attack the net' mentality. You need to shoot to score goals and I just don't see a high enough volume shot guy to be a consistent 30+ goal scorer in the NHL. Putting up 134 SOGs isn't going to cut it no matter how high his shooting percentage was last season.

Of course, it's such a small sample size. In any case, we won't see what he'll ultimately become until he's had about 4 years in the NHL - I read somewhere that year #4 is when most players have their breakthrough year (I wish I could find that article again). Until then, I see an Adam Oates type of player from everything I've gathered to this point. It shouldn't be taken as a slight towards RNH at all because as noted earlier, Oates is an HOFer. Plus not everyone can be another Tavares.

To get back on topic though, I think the Isles prospect base is performing pretty well this season. Should be interesting whenever our teams meet in the coming years.
It's not the same as the NHL but he had 50 shots in 19 AHL games this year so he was shooting more. He was also at 16% shooting which is still pretty high. He has a very good wrist shot and he has very good hands around the net and most importantly he reads the play very well and knows when to head to the net, etc.

I'm also very pleased with the progress of Nino and Nelson this season, the Islanders will be a very solid team in short order.

BPA I agree. Some are already saying Drouin could go as high as 3rd overall. I'm sure if Drouin is around when we pick he may very well be BPA at that point.

Jones is special. The gap between McKinnon, Barkov and Drouin is small so if the Islanders drafted Drouin for need I would not complain since any of these 3 could turn out to be the best forward in this draft.
Drouin might have the best hockey sense and hands of everybody.

Strome playing better tonight IMO and not bad hands shown by RNH on Canada's 5th goal

I saw RNH a few games when he was in junior live. I knew from the first time I saw him
he had it, made the play the stars do.

That was my take the first time that I saw him play as well. Prior to that I was in Couturier's corner.

I like Couturier but the skill level between RNH and him isn't close.

Agreed, that is why I wouldn't have taken him even though we could've really used some size down the middle.

Looks like he got benched after his second penalty for the final 3 minutes

That penalty was an accident. Strome fell down, unlucky for him when his stick hit the ice it caught the Slovak player.

Looks like the coach doesn't like Strome that much. I might be wrong, but Strome didn't got any PP time at all this game?

No Strome plays the 2nd unit, the RNH line plays the first unit. If the RNH unit takes up all the time Strome hardly gets anytime. That being said he was on the ice for Rattie's PP goal but didn't get an assist because he passed it to one defenseman who passed it to the other defenseman who passed it to Rattie

Still doesn't change the fact he didn't play one shift after the second penalty(although there was only like 3 minutes left)

I think it was more about getting the lower lines some extra looks and ice. MacKinnon and Drouin were out a lot together in the last 3m. I don't think RNH was out much in the last 3m either.

These game times are killer - not a morning person. Was able to watch the last 2 periods and was very happy with Strome and Reinhart. Seems like a broken record, but Big Griff is just solid again as he was his usual unsexy self.

Strome was really good, his skill was on full display on both goals.

Strome just interviewed on radio, first thing he said was he has to watch his stick.

Final stats
Strome, 2 goals (2,3), + 1, Reinhart 1 assist, + 2. It's almost a broken record
but another mistake free game from Griff.

Agreed, need to give the lower lines some ice time, even if it was just garbage time.

If that's the case why not bench the RNH line which had 2 shifts(although short ones) in that period of time. Not that it's a big deal but Strome could have got the hattrick with one more goal. As I said I think the Coach basically just wanted to make a point about the 2 penalties(not think it will carry over to the next game)

Not sure if you Americans get all the TSN talk after the game, but Bob McKenzie was just talking about Strome being one of the most consistent Canada forwards in every WJC game he's played for Canada this year and last. Said Strome could have easily been the POG today as well.

That's true, then I don't know. I need some coffee.

I guess he was benched then. It did seem like MacKinnon, Drouin and Rattie were out there the entire end of the game.
