Hasn't been proven true or false.

report was made around 4 hours ago, was said on the local boston news twice by burton and not a single big media hockey reporter has responded to it.

We'll find out for sure tomorrow though.

Ironically catching up with this thread while watching the episode of South Park while all of Canada goes on strike. All I picture is a presser tomorrow where Fehr says they gave in on make whole issue, but did get bubble gum and Bennigans coupons

This all seems a little too iffy and could possibly be true

a) the NHL realizes that fans are not only angry, but also becoming apathetic about the lockout.
b) Bettman and Fehr are getting alot of heat from the fans, as well as Jacobs
c) plan a meeting between only players and owners to get all the high ranking people in the game there.
d) have a secret meeting to try and work everything out while the focus is on the players/owners.
e) have a deal by tues/wed so that all the players and owners are there and act like they did it so that the fans trust them again.
How many times did Bob Mckenzie and Darren Dreger say when a deal gets done it will be done quickly and quietly? This is exactly it. Out of left field. seems like all big NHL news is out of the blue these days. Jets, Kovalchuk, etc. Also this guy reliable by all accounts and no one else is saying anything....
Or maybe everyone just went to sleep at 8 ET....

Sarak Kawk from SI claims Daly shot it down, but obviously he's going to do that.

They'll care if the fans stop spending money on the NHL, and a LOT of them have pledged to do just that.

Bettman and Fehr aren't perpetually stunned, and they would have to be not to notice the overwhelming apathy that's greeted this lockout. Neither the owners nor the players are going to come out from this any better off if the fans tell them all to take a flying leap.

Except the fans have no organized voice. They don't care about our meaningless little pledges or our apathy (heh), likely because they're completely ignorant of it.
Fans came back last time. Why should they expect anything different this time?

I have trouble believing that these selfish ****** had an epiphany for the ages in spectacularly sudden fashion on December 3rd.

Think about how wal-mart feels when some hippies protest the store and vow to never shop there again... that's how the NHL feels. The product they offer is good, people will always come back. And sadly, they know this.

What may seem like an epiphany to us sitting on the side lines was more likely a string of late night phone calls and conferences that we'll never know about to preserve the integrity of the negotiation. We'll find out more tomorrow.

@wyshynski Boston is Jacobs, widely regarded as key. Maybe Burton does have something. Turns out not *always* @russostrib with the big news.

There's not an ounce of integrity in this negotiation, never has been. This is the hilariously greedy NHLPA and woefully entitled NHL owners we are talking about - the two groups are utterly disillusioned, warped into thinking their NHL is actually more than a fringe league even though that is all it has ever been.

The word integrity comes in play when the 2 sides start actually agreeing to terms. The stuff that won't leak to the media until it's all said and done. No one's disputing the 2 sides are an embarrassment to our 'niche' sport to say the least.

Bit of an odd way to use that word then, but whatever. We're all hockey fans here and all suffering through the same crap as we'll doubtless face again six years from now.

Really hoping the NHL sees massive revenue losses whenever it comes back.

While Russo is probably right, beat writers tend to get pissed off when they get scooped and don't get the info.

When the Kovalchuk rumors were running rampant that he was heading to NJ our beat writer got pissed at all the fans asking him about it he came out and said that there was zero chance of it happening.

Ever since then, I take beat writers' 'opinions' with a grain of salt.
