Yunel Escobar to the Rays

DKnobler ‏@DKnobler
Rays close to deal for Yunel Escobar. Derek Dietrich goes to Marlins

That didn't take long. Yunel has had a controversial past, but he's a solid player. Good deal for the rays.

If Dietrich is all they got for Escobar it goes to show you how much of a salary dump it is. Even though that part was quite obvious.

Good move by the Rays. Cheap starting SS for the next 3 seasons.

Marlins get an ok prospect.

Rays needed the SS help BAD. Escobar is welcome here for sure. Playing him often in the Al East I know first hand he is a MAJOR upgrade over ou other SS options (while Hak Ju Lee develops still at least).

Although, Dietrich is still a good prospect with a lot of upside. So we didnt get him for peanuts.

A's could have used him, especially at that price.

They better not come away empty handed with their attempts to re-sign Drew.

Over/Under. Annual attendance vs Payroll. Take your pick.

Dietrich is a solid prospect. Miami's 2B of the future (until they decide to move him).

Rays upgraded a position that was the biggest weakness for them. Escobar is good defensively and will help that offense too.

Nolasco at 11.5 M

Hechavarria at 1.75 M

Pierre at 1.6 M

Dobbs at 1.5 M

Mathis at 1.5 M

And a bunch of kids making the minimum.

Escobar is making the same money as Jonny ****ing Gomes. That is a ridiculously dirt cheap contract.

Escobar is a solid fielder but his bat too a huge downward spiral last year. I didn't hate him on the Jays, was a fan, but he really disappointed last season.

Are they still trying to trade Nolasco?
