A bit curious tough. How did you select these players?
I decided to start with the players based on the teams that they played prominently on and going in alphabetical order. So the players from that list are from Anaheim to Buffalo. I then used hockey-reference.com to sort the players based on games played. Here is the one that I used for the Boston players.
I then looked at the names that stood out to me and put in a few players that I liked. I only started to really follow hockey in 96-97, so there are a whole bunch of players that I am not familiar with. I expect to see people mention that I didn't put so-and-so player on the list, but I think this list is sufficient enough to get the majority of the favourite players, especially since the majority of posters are quite young too.
Being a Bruins fan, a lot of my favorite players of all time are in this poll. I give the edge to Bergeron though because I've got to watch him ever since he came into the NHL as an 18 year old second rounder, and he epitomizes everything that I think a pro athlete should be. Team-first, committed to defense as much as offense, humble and charitable, persevered through very difficult challenges, and is ultimately a winner at every level. I can't believe he's only 27. Class act.
