What's your opinion of John Wensink?

Used to love him with the Bruins & Nordiques. Dude had personality, could go a little nuts (péter une coche we say in Québec slang) at times, and could actually score goals and play a good positional game. I still remember when he challenged the whole North Stars team.

Wondering what the experts here thought of him as an enforcer, his fighting style and prowess. In my humble opinion, he may have lost quite a few fights but he was fearless, could take it as well as dish it, would never back down and seem to relish the fisticuffs.

Wensink with Terry O'Reilly and Stan Jonathan was an unforgettable triumvirate of truculence.

xcellent post. a true mad man, something that hockey couldd use more of, this guy was 'the real deal'. was a great fighter and could play the game too. crushed Playfair in that popular clip. as a Flyer fan [at the time]i was eleated to hear they added him altho it was short lived.

i think Nysystrom took him, too fast, but Wensink was a Big Bad Bruin.

his beatdown of Battleship Kelly, who was a legend at the time, was priceless.

someone that Don Cherry could be proud of

Seems to me like Ross 'The Boss Rhea' in Goon looked and acted a lot like Wensink. Possible inspiration? After all, John apparently had quite a memorable stint with the Bruins AHL affiliate Amerks under Don Cherry at the time.

They pulled each other's hair with one hand to better wail with the other.

Don Cherry claims he is the toughest player he ever saw. Weinsink looked mean too. He scored 25 goals one year so he wasn't a no talent goon either. He was just intimidating and fit the mold of the Bruins in those days

In my youth going to the old Boston Gahden 2 players would bring you to the edge of your seat when they came over the boards. The first obviously was Bobby Orr. You never knew what spectacular thing was about to happen.
The second was Wensink. You never knew what mayhem was about to happen.
He was like a Great White shark out there. Just prowling and circling.

He is a really good guy. I played against him several times in the adult leagues in stl. He can still play the game. Several years ago, one of our token young guys was having a tough time with John in front of the net and John took him aside after the game to show him a few tricks. The kid came back to the locker room afterwards and asked us who that guy was. The next week I gave him my Bruins fight tape and he was totally shocked that that was the same guy
