Punk hits day #381! Longest reigning champ of the modern era!

Today marks the 381st day for Punk's reign. Longest in 25 years and of the modern era. What does it mean to you?

To me, this is huge. This little run was the first time I cared about length of a championship run. I am very happy this day came along. I don't think it will be surpassed for a very long time.

Aesthetically, it means a lot, to the wrestling purist.

Overall, not as much as we'd like to think it does. It took him nearly the entire year to main event a PPV, and the Rock is on the horizon. Meanwhile, almost everything else is all about Cena. The title reign itself is impressive, but the title is continuously devalued by the company.

All that is true. However, none of that goes into the record books.

What does?

C.M. Punk - 381 consecutive days as WWE Champion.

Agreed with all of this.

First of all, huge congrats to CM Punk. My favorite wrestler and mostly because he is one the few wrestlers out there today that makes me care more about the current industry than I would if he wasn't there.

I've heard people draw several comparisons between CM Punk and Randy Savage (which makes Punk's tributes to Savage even more fitting), paricularly his title reign between WM4 and WM5. Savage held the title for an entire year but was mostly overshadowed by Hogan and the Mega Powers Explode angle. In the modern WWE, the WWE title means less when it's not on Cena. That's not to say that CM Punk's current WWE title reign is not impressive, but it doesn't feel as special as it should be.

Is there a gif of when he took the ring prior to his MITB 2011 match v Cena? Wasn't that when he hopped up the turnbuckled and screamed "What's my ****ing name!?" while the cameras were focused directly on him?

in an era where the title has generally been hot potatoed (especially in 2011), punk has been champ for 381 days and will definitely get to 400. Unheard of in this era unless your name is cena. Huge.

You think in 2005 if you told Vince that CM Punk would be the longest reigning WWE Champion in 25 years that he'd believe you? Do you think ANYONE would believe you?

BEST IN THE WOOOOOORLD!!!!!!!!!!

After a few years of watching less WWE, CM Punk got me interested again and now I'm watching every Raw and PPV.

From his debut in ECW to The Straight Edge society (too bad that's gone) to THE promo, he became my favorite wrestling since Bret Hart.

He is wrestling and that's what I like.

What this means is that HHH came in and said he wanted longer title reigns.

Punk has gotten really stale to me. That's probably more on creative though.

This! At first, I wasn't a big fan, but when he turned heel the first time, he quickly grew on me and now, he is my favorite... since Bret Hart

He's still strong on the mic but the "Best In The World" angle is what's getting old. He can't do the rage against the machine promos when he is the machine. While I like the Punk/Heyman dynamic...I want to know what the payoff is. Is it just to push a new stable of guys? Is he ever going to be a face again?

Having watched him through ROH and TNA and trying to follow him in whatever other little irrelevant promotions he was working this is beyond awesome. A lot of us knew back then how great he was but I doubt many thought he'd get this much of an opportunity. I remember a lot of people in his early WWE days questioning what the big deal with Punk was and just thinking if they let him start doing his thing then you'll know.

And while these guys quite possibly would have been signed anyway, his run has coincided with Danielson getting the belt, Claudio coming in getting the US belt, Hero signing, Black signing and now in the Shield which is all awesome. Punk must be a huge inspiration to a lot of indy guys who in the past may have thought WWE wasn't going to be an option because they didn't have the build and, look.

There is no way a guy like Ambrose would be in the WWE right now in a major angle without CM Punk.

what people forget about Cena's long reign from 06-07 was that he didn't even drop the belt to somebody. He got seriously hurt and had to relinquish the title. Lord knows how long he would have held that title for, and lord knows the company was pissed when they lost their huge payoff for him to lose the title.

One thing to consider when you look at the longest title reigns -- of the 6 longest reigns (CM Punk being the 6th, or depending on how Bob Backlund is considered), all 8 champions won the Title in New York. Cena having the 9th won his in Toronto.
