So excited right now. I really didn't think they'd get it done. This is better than Christmas.

So how long is the CBA good for? Or in other words, when is the next lockout?

10 years, but there's an opt-out clause after 8 years. So 8 years.

That's true...and that was pretty much my initial point. Cap was originally expected to be somewhere like 68-70 - the closer to that number the negotiations got (especially considering it's just year 1 of the new CBA and then would drop) the better for us. We could really have used the extra 5-6m this year.

But all in all staying at last year's number is a good compromise and I'm glad we can get this season started.

I'm also interested to see how these new variance rules affect Geno's next contract.

That would obviously be hilarious for us but bad for the sport in general. Just out of curiosity I wonder what sort of compensation washington would get if that did happen.

Well, the real problem was Letang taking so long to sign with the KHL.

It looked just a few days ago like the season was lost. Letang signs in the KHL, and it's pretty clear that the league and players made a deal to shut up the French Canadian media's collective outrage at the thoughts of one of their own playing in Russia.

more annoyed than relieved at this point.

it seems like the deal they reached was on the table from the get go. so why this whole saga?

seems like this lockout did nothing more than solidify the nhl as a second-rate league.

maybe i'm just annoyed i had a nice vacation to watch the nhl over the holidays, and now that there are games i wont be able to watch much.

Is that recent? I saw someone on the main board posted an article from sportsnet about this, but it was dated October last year.
