That article about Crosby and the Pens seems a bit strange to me. Why risk publishing an article or publicly talking about having talks with the other side (when you aren't even supposed to) and trying to brainstorm ways to get their own sides to see reason? Couldn't that potentially backfire on you? It would make more sense to admit to this after something was settled, not on the very day that both sides have agreed that there's been progress in talks.

I'll celebrate the lockout ending by buying a Seidenberg one.

Hopefully I get to within a week, and not a year! I'm so optimistic right now. Gone from expecting the worst to expecting the world in less than 4 hours.

I smell PR, the leagues golden boy, tired of seeing all the hurt fans, steps up and makes the hard choice...

Except they'll be playing 10+ fewer games. It's not like they'd be ending that late for the hell of it.

-Bobby Mac says this is the 11th hour and both sides recognize that.

-All the Insiders feel a step (in the right direction) has been taken

-Owners have more to give, players can bend more. Both sides knew it, now acting upon it.

-Burkle and Tanenbaum big for the owners side

-Less to do with no Bettman/Fehr and more to do with time running out

@JSportsnet: DFehr and GBettman are not in the latest Player-Owner meeting. It has just begun.

Positive stuff compared to their usual tone.

Bobby Mac talked about a ''step'' in the right direction.

Both sides need to give something.

They praised the Pens owner and Tannenbaum.

They talked about it being desperation time, which can lead to legit talks.

Dreger pleaded basically that both sides need to continue talking until a deal is done, even postponing the BOG meeting tomorrow for a few hours tomorrow if need be.

I know it feels like FOREVER for us, the lost season is a not-so-distant memory and we're all prepared for another one. But honestly if a deal is announced this week, we've lost 2 months at this point. Do the casual fans feel the loss as much as we do?

Also how much does twitter/smart phones play into this? Last time we really had to wait for yahoo and TSN updates from reporters. Now we get instant updates everytime Bettman blinks, and we've got so many more reporters, players, speculators and whoever else posting updates as well.

I think the process feels more dragging in the down times and more intense during nights like tonight.

It's good PR even if they wait until after a deal is done to say that Crosby played a huge part in getting a deal done. I don't think the timing right now is smart. Not saying that it would backfire but I get the feeling that the article is veiling their assumptions as facts of what happened. I did say earlier that Crosby and Adams being in the room with Burkle is probably something that was intentional, and so I don't doubt the very real possibility that Burkle and Crosby were the voices of reason for their respective sides, I just don't all out trust the contents of that article and wished they had waited to release that kind of information.

Bettman and Fehr must be really bored tonight. Hopefully they got Angry Birds to play while they sit around and wait.
