[MEM/TOR] Rudy Gay for Ed Davis and Jose Calderon

Quote:
The Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors have agreed in principle on a trade that will send leading scorer Rudy Gay to the Raptors, according to sources with knowledge of the deal.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Grizzlies will acquire forward Ed Davis and veteran guard Jose Calderon from the Raptors and then move Calderon on to a third team to ultimately make this a three-team deal.

The Detroit Pistons, sources said, are one of the prime options to take on Calderon, having pursued the Spanish floor leader all season.

As a semi Raptors fan I like the addition of Gay, but I'm worried about how he and Derozen will mesh. They both play somewhat similar games, and neither is a great outside shooter, something the team could really use. The team's also overloaded on the wing with Ross, Fields and Anderson, and there won't be enough minutes to go around. Ed Davis's hard nosed play will also sorely missed in no time.

Good trade for both teams. Raptors get a borderline all-star, but Memphis needed to slash salary, but they got a great young player in Davis and potentially a solid veteran in Prince to fill in for Gay. Win-win trade for both teams

**** BC.

get rid of this clown. Davis was finally showing his true potential. Calderon was a solid vet. was a trade required? yes... but not this one. I don't think gay gives us what we need.

Apparently Calderon would be going to Detroit for Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye to complete the 3-way deal.

He sort of does. The Raps needed a star to build their team around, and Gay fits the bill. They'll probably be a playoff team next season.

Dumars has quietly done a good job ever since ownership has been settled again.

Calderon brought to tears when told he was traded, and Ed Davis was described as inconsolable.

This is BC's thing now, playing musical chairs with the roster just to show management he's doing something. Davis was looking great, and I don't like the addition of Gay at all.

Gotta be hard on the players.. It's sad to see long time players like Calderon go.

Ed Davis was playing great for the Raptors and he was finally starting to show his potential. Now he's gone and Bargnani will probably be back in the starting line up as soon as he's healthy and no, that's not a good thing. Losing Davis is going to suck for the Raptors.

Gay hasn't had the best season and he makes a lot of money but if he gets his **** together, he's easily the best player on the Raptors. He'll be their best player since Bosh.

Who knows, maybe it was a smart move and Colangelo sold high on Davis and bought low on Gay. Then again, it's Colangelo so he might have just really ****ed up.

It's going to be a great thing for the Raptors. Having a legitimate scorer like Gay will take pressure off Lowry and Bargnani, especially for Bargnani who only has to be a spot-up three-point shooter now. He'll get many open looks with Gay on the team now.

Why do the Pistons need Calderon? If anything they should have attempted to acquire Gay. Good deal for the Raptors but I don't really understand it from the viewpoint of the other sides

The Raptors are a decent 4 away from being a legit playoff team., On paper at least.

Lowry
DeRozan
Gay
Bargnani??? ()
Amir

With Ross, Gray, Anderson etc coming off the bench. Much worse teams than this. Even with Bargnani.

I await the trade deadline when they package Ross, Bargnani, Fields + picks to ATL for J Smoove Now *THAT* would be a deadly team

And they got Rudy Gay, who is only three years older than Davis, and is a borderline all-star. I doubt Davis will ever be as good as Gay is.

Detroit wants no part of Gay's horrendous contract.

This move gives them even more cap room and to see if Knight can play as a two-guard.

Memphis didn't lose much either in swapping Gay for Davis/Prince. If anything, Davis could make Randolph expendable if he continues improving.

This is one of those trades that even 4 weeks from now I'll be confused on where Tay Prince is.

I don't understand the hate for Gay and this trade on the Raps' side. For a league that lives and dies by star players, Gay is probably the 5th or 6th best player in the East now, and the Raps have him.

Full Trade:

TOR: SF Rudy Gay, C Hamed Haddadi
MEM: PF Ed Davis, SF Austin Daye, SF Tayshaun Prince, 2nd (from TOR)
DET: PG Jose Calderon

Apparently Calderon was going to Dallas originally but they refused to give Memphis Vince Carter and couldn't beat Daye/Prince otherwise.

Great job by Toronto avoiding giving up DeRozan.
