Seriously guys... just manage your cap space better. I hope everyone realizes that you can just release free agent players who are aging and who may want too much money, so it frees up more money for the younger guys. You don't have to re-sign ALL of your players, plus the new draft picks. For instance, last year Fistric wanted close to $5 million a year... knowing that I'm one season away from having to re-sign guys like Malkin/Sutter/Jagr, I let him walk and played a guy like Jordie Benn instead. Yes, he's only a 70, but only costed me $650K. Now I'm able to spend $11.75M on Malkin without even flinching.

I also love the fact that the first paragraph of this Thread explains the Contract Situation so last years debacle didn't happen again.

Noooo that is from last season. If you didn't resign someone last season because you saw you needed to resign datsyuk then you woudlnt be having this problem. I believe that everyone should have an internal cap, like people have said you cannot spend up to the cap which is something you did. Having an internal cap shouldn't be forced but it should be something people strongly consider.

Hmmmmm I'm not sure where I stand on the matter... Obviously I'm going to have some bias here because like a few others I'm also in cap trouble. Now despite me giving Peckham, Malhotra, and LaRose far more money then they deserved last season I still don't think it's far to punish people who were planning on being tight to the cap this offseason.

Realistically EA should have done it so you can go over the cap during free agency, but your 23 man roster to start the season needs to be under the cap.

I don't see how it's fair for me to expect to have a million or two left over after expected raises to some players and then get screwed over by the 68 overall minor league players making 500k to go against my cap... It's not realistic.

No easy way to do this though. Maybe have free agency right when the season starts and have a rule you can't bury anyone in the minors making more than like... 3 million?

I dunno...

Instead of people using their 2 trades/season to acquire a new superstar... use it to shed some cap. Last year Montreal was in trouble, so he traded me Kaberle & Clowe, instantly freeing up $8 or 9M.

I'm really not trying to be some hard ass ***** here guys, I just feel like an eventful free agency period is both fun and beneficial to the balance of the league, and the only way good players will ever reach free agency is without modifying free agency dates or creating a safe list.

Even if we allow a transition year with a few exceptions this year and start the no leniency next year, it's just important to get it right in the long run.

I was up till 1 am or so in the league last night, but only logged in about half hour ago. I guess I missed a period in that 12 hours that was the first re-sign phase for sim. I've tendered and sent all my offers and hopefully they all re-sign. Is the next sim one that leads to July 1?

Agreed. I mean it's not like I have a bunch of expensive contracts to worry about but still we all know now how it works everyone counts. Now being a bottom feeder team with 11mil in cap space having ufas or even rfas making it to the free agency period is huge for me to have a chance to further my team, and if there are no free agents above a 78 @ 28yrs old its going to be impossible for my team to get better without trading because player progression in the draft sucks ****ing ****.

And also there's the option of buying out contracts to create space if that's needed.

There is no doubt that EA made a mistake. What I'm saying is that WE ALL knew about it because it happened last season. Did we think it would magically be resolved? Nope. Everybody should've prepared in consequence.

See that's where you are getting snagged by the cap system. In Connected mode there technically isn't an AHL team to stock. The only players you should have signed are your roster players, a few bench/depth players in case of injury, and prospects. Your players get sent to the "minors" when you move them there in the GM roster screen, but there's no specific team.

So if a team wants to carry a few more depth players/signed prospects, they're going to have less roster cap to use during the season unless we make changes to the UFA date or add exception lists.

The system is actually quite smart. You have that extra space of roughly 6-8M between the reg season cap and offseason cap to maintain/grow prospects without having a hard time signing players next season.
