IF he sucks so much you have him play out his final year (yr 1 of your rebuild) and then go with some rookie QB in yr 2
Your idea of getting rid of him and bringing in Alex Smith because Smith is cheap option for rebuild makes no sense
Cutler is only under contract for 1 year ,, Thus bringing in Smith wouldn't be needed
i thought Smith was signed through next year like cutler. and the only idea there was to get an nfl quality qb so the team is at least watchable. not sure there are any andrew luck/rg3 type guys coming out any time soon that are worth tanking a season for. i also don't think the mccaskeys would be okay with that any way

If your rebuilding there is no point in having a quality QB (Smith is not) ,, Cutler is better then Smith so not sure what you are thinking
Also Smith is not that cheap
Smith is signed for 2 more years at 7.5M per (With some bonus's that could push it to 9M per)
Cutler is signed 1 more year at about 8.2M with some bonus that could push it to 10M

again you didn't read my post. i was throwing out a name of a guy who's nfl quality and i thought we could get at a substantial saving to cutler for a few years after his contract ran out. Smith was just the first name that popped into my head who i thought fit the criteria. and reading this thread, cutler its hands down the most overrated qb in the league.

Flacco , Rivers and others are easily more overated
Wow ,, Big Ben just avoided like 6 sacks and threw TD to Miller
Thru all this negative talk/times for Bears one thing must be applauded
Corey Wootton ,, This guy came into year buried #4 on DE depth chart and he has worked his way up to primary opposite Peppers on passing downs and he has been playing more then Idonije lately and has 7 sacks on years along with 2 forced fumbles
It would be Geno Smith or Luke Joeckel... Only other guys worth considering are on the defensive line, and that's the one spot we wouldn't need to use the #1 overall pick at.
