I figured that may be the premise behind it. Being able to replace Buerhle's salary with Niese and Dickey. Would make it a lot easier for them to throw a little extra if needed at JJ to help keep him around. Still seems high to me though.

Exactly, with Buck off the books (although it is reinvested in Reyes getting+6 million next year) We should have the flexibility to resign JJ and add more.

well you are getting back a Cy Young winner and a controllable mid rotation starter. Pitching is expensive.

including the posting fee, comes out to 61.7 million.

Projected as a number 3 pitcher if all goes well. I'd rather just sign an established number 3 pitcher for 10 million a year, but who cares, its the dodgers

I'm not really even sure why they posted so high. I can't imagine too many teams were gonna go big on him.

Yes but that Cy Young winner is old and the controllable pitcher is good. Their getting an innnings eating mid rotation starter. A young controllable catcher. A young very high upside centre fielder and well a nothing special prospect. I still think this trade would be in NY's favour.

Kershaw
Greinke
Billingsley
Beckett
RYU

That will/should be (bearing any massive injuries) one awesome rotation.

Probably 4th or 5th best rotation in baseball.

Kershaw, Greinke and Billingsly are the only dependable pieces of that rotation. With Beckett still getting used to the NL, and RYU being a wild card. It's a great rotation, just not top 5. Nothing I'd be "scared" of anyways.

As I've stated before, I'd say trading for Capuano is a lock.

1-2 is scary, Billingsley is a good #3, Beckett you don't know what hes gonna be, and RYU you dont know how long its gonna take for him to get used to the NL.

Pretty solid I'd say.

Just wondering who would your top-5 be?

IMO Nats/Rays are 1-2, I'd take Giants over Dodgers as well. Then there's Braves who are deep but they lack that top guy.

But the 1-2-3 punch might be one of the best (nobody matches The Nationals IMO). Beckett had an off year but he was pretty good before that. Ryo, who knows

Nationals
Rays
Giants
Braves
Phillies

To each their own.

Dodgers are 6-7, mixed in with Cincy, Detroit.
