These games are more entertaining than hockey anyways. I think when the season starts I'm going to miss these negotiations.

I agree. I love/hate it. I love getting minute by minute updates it's really exciting. It like watching a NHL game ahaha. not really. I still remember watching the TSN feed when Bettman and Daly were going into the lobby for the presser after everything fell apart. "And here is bettman, entering the lobby, he walks towards the first escalator and is only one escalator away from reaching the room" such play by play hah. On the other hand, literally anyone can pull **** from their ass and pass it off as "reports from sources." Today, anyone can be a journalist, all you need is connections.

I agree.

Much more fun watching people flip over this than arguing Brian Boyle's worth.

To all you people mesmerized by Forbes - “@JasonGregor: Diotte quoting Forbes saying Oilers make $16.4 million. Asks KG if Forbes is accurate or not? KG says they've never had contact with Forbes.”

I don't think we will hear much about today's meetings with the media ban being enforced for them.

No, actually he is quite bright. He may be commenting on the disparity between franchises mimicking MLB rather than NBA. Solutions will be found there as opposed to the other leagues.

NBA dropped UFA to 4 years in the league to go along with 4/5 year contracts. That was the trade off. NHL wants 5/7 year deals and until recently wanted UFA to increase from 7 years. The NBA is a model went it is convenient.

This is the type of non-news these guys have been specializing in.

Translation: "Something will happen soon - they will either play hockey, or cancel the season."

In response to the league’s call for such an alteration, the NHLPA devised something called a “cap benefit recapture formula,” which would punish teams with players who retired early on long-term deals by putting the money they saved over the term of the deal on their cap after they’ve retired.

This notion has been around for a while, but the change that came last week was that the PA offered to apply this formula to any new contracts that are seven years or longer OR existing deals with seven years or more remaining.
NHLPA now willing to penalize the cheating contracts already signed. I'd call that a significant concession.

Players seem to be offering this to keep the contract cap at 8 years. Problem will be if league takes the penalty and insists on 5 years.

Not that this is remotely surprising, but the new CBA is going to really put the screws to big market teams. Gonna be interesting.

Mostly Minnesota...

Though if Richards retires when he is 37 it would carry a cap-hit of $5.67M for three seasons. Ouch. That being said I fully support the rule.

Not surprising there. Fehr should try to get that back up near last week's offer and call it a day.
