need help ps3

ok so my ps3 works fine but I do have a concern. It's an original and it's kind of old i've had it a couple years but it was owned prior to that i'd say it's 5 years old. Anyway it works perfect but the fan is kind of loud not super loud i'm just not sure if i'm soposed to hear it. Is there a way to keep it quiet? I have no other issues other then the fan does it need to be cleaned? or more serious?

Early ps3's fan were kind of loud so to me that seems normal but that's just my opinion. It seemed to be the loudest when using blu ray movies with mine. You might want to vacuum all the vents on it though since the cleaner the vents are the better the air flow and the lower the noise. Also if your in a closed room ie bedroom open the door so the room doesn't heat up as much which will cause the ps3 to heat up faster.

The thermal paste between your heat sinks is probably starting to wear off. That happened to my old 40GB a while back, the symptom included the fan getting really loud and my PS3 heating up very quickly.

I'd recommend giving the fan a vaccuum and taking the PS3 apart to check the thermal paste.

My old 40 GB was horrific, you could hear the fan from anywhere in my apartment. Updated to a 500 slim recently, the silence is bliss.

after doing some research it doesn't seem like a huge deal most people seem to say the fan is likely just dusty
