Hockey Buzz Eklund @Eklund
Just talked to source. VERY high up. Based "occurrence last hour" he is 99.9% sure of 48 game NHL season starting on or around January 12th.
eklol ftw
How does that work? 6 v division is 24...2 vs the other teams in conference is 20...
You can reach every number with some random east-west games.
But how can he be "sure" the season will start on Jan 12th. That would mean he'd know the deal gets done in late December. That doesn't make sense imo.

Deal will be done before the players next paycheck which is the 13th, unless the owners squeeze one more out of them.
Fehr is on record as saying they are close, and I hate him, but like that tactic. When they meet again the public pressure is on the NHL to get a deal done.

Yeah I've been in your corner this whole time and wasn't worried until Bettman got his panties into a bunch....Is Bettman and the hardliners enough to be spiteful and let this thing run out?
Lou, with no drop dead date did you really think Don Fehr was going to say 'deal'
of course Bettman and company wanted to close out, smile, get games out there- maybe even before Christmas because they make great presents you know.
but aint happening
Fehr has had his balls busted for 2 months not that he didn't expect it, now he's got a little window as small as it is to make the league frown
as for Bettman and the hardliners- they got there 50% and grudgingly moved to 300 of the 393 million so the its now all about CERTAINTY in length of CBA and length of contracts
They'll get both- close to what they want
BTW what would those here do if they were Fehr/
I'd give the 50/50
I'd want all 393 make whole
I'd go 6 years on the Cap for contracts
I'd be ok with 8 years but ten seems a bit long
so what is Fehr supposed to do?
We don't like him but really I think other than his disengenious behaviour or coyness or whatever the other night, what the heck has he tried to negotiate any of us wouldn't have in the same job
also, all that worry about the cap coming down and we are losing Horton and others- is that not an issue anymore
I have not heard anything about the Cap being adjusted
The Feds made them pay a hefty tax on those rings. They count as taxable income. If Jacobs gave them the money to pay the tax then that would also be taxed.
Understood.
Never opined that JJ "is behind it all." Just that he's a cheap, greedy turd who cares chiefly about himself, his family, and his money. I may have the order wrong.
You'd rather he gave them $100 rings so they'd be exempt from gift tax?
I'd rather not hear countless stories like this, some apocryphal, I'm sure.
I'd rather he weren't the owner of the Boston Bruins.
Bob Beers mentioned today on the SH that Ed Snider's Flyers are perceived league-wide to treat their players with respect & decency. Mike Illich is at the top of that list as well.
I can't speak to the present environment, but in the Sinden/OC era, if a player wanted to frame a jersey as a keepsake, he was made to pay for it. Complimentary buffet was anything but, & typically miserly.
I'll get off a dead horse, as, to mix metaphors, I'm finished flogging it. For now.
Not surprising though...it seems like most writers live in lala land now.
Its a pretty easily looked up tax that anyone giving any sort of business related gift has to follow.
I guess it doesnt fit the script though and thats what is important in "journalism" now.
The best part about the whole thing was the "reporter" asked a player if this happened. You really think a player knows this off the top of their head let alone at all? Lol.

I'm willing to bet significant coin that Jeff Carter doesn't share that opinion.

Not a betting man; waste of coin. From what little I know, Columbus was the proper place for young Mr. Carter. In the end, matters worked out nicely for him, no?
One need not mistreat players, nor coddle them either.
Very nice to hear some of the great things players are still doing even during the lockout...
Sounds like if they can get back together a deal should be able to be hammered out. Love the tactic the players are taking here..."We are very close"...thats all you hear... May or may not be true, but puts some pressure on the owners..

You do the English language justice.....I like you.
