maybe i'm wrong, but isn't washington really high neuvirth and holtby? not saying it can't happen, but it looks to me like washington is willing to go yzerman and gamble on one of those two young guys being the answer.

don't think they'd be interested in luongo, especially with the big contracts they already have on the books. especially after picking up ribeiro ($5 million cap hit), and still having $3 million on ward, $4.5 million on laich, carlson's raise, alzner needing a new deal soon, and that's not even getting into ovie, backstrom, and green, i think washington almost has to go cheap on young goalies.

I wonder if McPhee is on the hot seat?

Its hard to imagine that Bozak is going to be the main piece coming back, considering he's going to be an UFA next season. I can still see him part on a deal however, but not as a the main piece.

Something like:

Nikolai Kulemin, Tyler Bozak, Matt Frattin

For

Roberto Luongo, Aaron Volpatti

What is the main piece there? Nothing really appealing IMO.

That's a horrible trade. Can we get at least one valuable asset for Luongo??

All 3 of those players are valuable. Bozak the worst. But you should be happy with Frattin and Kulemin.

That's like if we gave up Raymond, Pinizzotto, and Lapierre for Phaneuf. Fair?

That's too much. Phaneuf has a bad contract (overpaid).

A better comparison would be

Hansen, Burrows, Lapierre

I don't see a single repeat 30 goal scorer on that list of yours to compare to Burrows.

Uh, no. Burrows has never once scored less than 26 goals over the past 4 years. Frattin may very well end up being as good as Hansen, but he's not yet proven enough to merit that value. To be fair I think Bozak is better than Lapierre, but probably not in a checking role.

So...I don't think Toronto is a likely destination...and nothing personal, but they don't have much I'd want. The offers, usually made by or oked by Leafs posters, have been Lupul+1st, Finn+Bozak+Kadri+Frattin (not a lot of value individually, but each piece fills a hole) or Grabovski+ (which I think is the weakest offer from Toronto of the three, but it fills a hole for us, and has shown that some posters are still willing to give to get.

I say we just rock two starters until someone else comes into the picture.

I disagree with this, I think that offer is easily the strongest of the three. Grabovski is a long term fit as a player and is under contract. He'd be a great return.

The other offers are mostly lottery tickets. I don't think that's the worst way to go but not as desirable as someone that is already contributing how we would expect.

I would be happy with Grabovski and a 1st round pick for Luongo. It would give us excellent depth down the middle and a Higgins-Grabovski-Hansen 3rd line would provide great 2-way play. Frees up Schroeder to be dealt for a 2nd line RWer at the deadline.

We need to stop with all these proposals.

Our asking price has dropped by such an obscene amount since July 1st I feel like vomiting.

With all due respect, if you were in charge of this deal Luongo would be playing out his days in Van. Not that it's a bad thing.

Your proposals are inline with a much younger player on a shorter deal.

Age is an issue, the contract isn't. I think the Carter and Richards deals speak to that.

With all due respect, if you were in charge of the Leafs you probably would continue to operate your team without a goalie. At some point you'll have to acquire a goalie and it's going to cost you. Might as well pay up for a top 5 goalie than to suffer even more years of mediocrity than you have to.

Your proposals are inline with a goalie such as Jonas Hiller or Ondrej Pavelec, than a player like Roberto Luongo.

Heck ya. I think Higgins actually has more chemistry with Kesler than anyone else so I might mix them up a little different but any way you slice it that's a 2nd line on most teams. If we could also find a fit for that 2nd line RW spot (like Kassian ) we could go from having no scoring from the second line to having two second lines that can score! Dare to dream.

Well I figured it would be Higgins or Raymond as the 3LW, but with Raymond on that line we're a bit smallish/soft. Perhaps if we did something like this:

Luongo, Raymond for Grabovski, Kulemin, 1st round pick

we could ice a roster of:

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Booth-Kesler-Higgins
Kulemin-Grabovski-Hansen
Malhotra-Lapierre-Weise

Still not an ideal 2nd line, but I think that 3rd line is better than what we've iced in the past.
