Wow, I feel sad having not played any of those. Haven't been able to game in a while and I don't think I could even call myself a gamer anymore. I did buy the Mass Effect trilogy just haven't been able to find time to play it.

Same.

DOTA2 would be my choice, and the winner by a country mile.

As much as I hated Mass Effect 3 compared to 1 and 2, it's still the best game listed.

My choice isn't listed despite multiple people discussing how good the game is. This is a sham.

Very real problems with the game's mechanics aside, as of right now my personal game of the year is Spec Ops: The Line, even though it's not in the poll (and not surprised in the least that it isn't).

Probably the best story, imho, of any game I've ever played, gameplay is visceral (though oftentimes sluggish and frustrating), great voice acting and fantastic soundtrack, and it downright looks gorgeous. I may have had more fun with other games than Spec Ops this past year, but none will match the impression it left with me afterwards.

Don't feel comfortable voting for any of the games that made the cut, as I either haven't played them (like XCOM) or wouldn't remotely consider them GOTY candidates (AC3).

Halo 4 should be running away with this. Amazing campaign, amazing graphics, and a multiplayer that blows every other game on that list (maybe BO2) out of the water. Certainly a better multiplayer than Mass Effect 3.

I liked ME3 (except the ending), Sleeping Dogs, and Hitman: Absolution, but honestly none of those games really feel like "Game of the Year" type games to me. So I'll abstain from voting.

I'd say Sleeping Dogs definitely deserves consideration. It's 5th on my list.

it was a disappointment :-\. could have been an amazing game. big letdown unfortunatley. they did make improvements, but it was too little, too late imo.

Decent list, although could use games such as Guild Wars 2, DOTA 2, Max Payne 3, Diablo 3, etc.

I haven't played many games this year. Just Halo 4, Torchlight 2, Diablo 3, and DOTA 2. DOTA 2 and Halo 4 are the best IMO, and I surprisingly enjoyed Torchlight 2 over Diablo 3.
Excited to try out the other games once they are on sale, I definitely want to complete the Mass Effect trilogy (no matter how bad the ending may be!).

D3 = my biggest disappointment of the year ...and i even like the game, but after the greatness of D2 ...its a HUGE letdown.

and those improvements you mentioned, while not bad, are still not enough. the game isn't out of beta, imo. even though it was released last May, its still not finished.

still no PvP ...which is absolutely ridiculous ...and the items are still, even after a few tweaks, a pretty big letdown. you can go days without finding a unique item ...and when you do finally find one, 98% of time its complete vendor trash. the range between good stats and poor stats on these items vary way too much, with an obvious heavy slant towards the poor stats. it just makes the item search frustrating as hell after awhile.

it was WAY way way easier to gear up with good items in D2 ...so with so many terrible items dropping in D3, the obvious answer is that Blizzard wants people to use their real money auction house to buy the good gear. its almost like D3 is a full priced pay to win game.

i have a real love/hate relationship with that game. love the combat, but damn its frustrating in other ways.

What turned me off most in D3 was that it had no chat rooms anymore, no custom games were you can easily join, killed all the fun in the game.
