ECHL team sells out HP Pavillion

San Francisco Bulls have sold out their game against Stockton Thunder tonight at the HP Pavillion.

Fantastic support for an ECHL team in San Jose.

Wait, but I thought it was only NHL players that brought people out to hockey games ...

I thought San Jose was a "Sun Belt" market that didn't like hockey?

Believe the game is tonight at 7:30PM and I think you can watch it live on the Bulls website but you have to pay obviously.

In strolls Debbie Downer and mentions that SF averages 4000 fans in an 11000 seat arena.

Calling it a sellout is a bit of a stretch, STH of both the Bulls and the Sharks were given free tickets by the organization, and 3500 other tickets were given away for free on ticketmaster.

That being said, I'm excited to get into HP tonight....kind of hoping to not see that many people in Sharks gear.

The people in San Pedro Square must absolutely hate the NHL. Going to stop into Peggy Sue's for a burger before the game....not much but hope it helps.

Let us know what the actual attendance looks like.

Still not a bad idea. I often spend $40 on drinks at a game.

I really wish the Barons could play a game in Edmonton. Guarantee it would sell out considering our franchise is on that team anyway

An AHL team selling out in Canada is not all that shocking. However an ECHL team in California is rather impressive.

So over half the tickets were free ? Did they at least show up ? Free, or not it's a good sign if they show up.

During the NHL seasons the Dogs still sell out.

Same with the Falcons playing in Columbus. The CBJ did this during the last lockout.

Nearly all, if not all, the tickets were free. Game didn't start yet, tonight at 7:30. I'm seeing a lot of scalpers on craigslist though, so I'd be surprised if the arena was even 75% full tonight.
Giving free tickets is a good idea. People will spend money on arena food, and it'll probably boost sales for the stores around Downtown San Jose, which have been struggling with no NHL.

That's amazing for an ECHL team. No question. Shows it's a hockey town for sure. San Jose deserves to have hockey

AHL teams do this too, give out 10000 free tickets. Getting people in the building and buying stuff they make that money back no problem.

FYI, over 350,000 Canadian expatriates live in the bay area, so although hockey is 4th of the major sports there's definitely a solid market for it here.

Not to mention the (probably over 1 million) transplants from hockey markets in the northern US.

I'm going to guess that 90% of the tickets were free

Either way, if X amount of tickets are free, it's stunning that many people showed up.
