It's awesome to read that his game continues to grow and he's showing no signs of dropping off. We have three very good d-man prospects in Ouellet, Backman and Sproul.

Team poured on a bit more to win 6-0, Backman 1+1, +2, 20:58 TOI.
Calle had worse night, team lost 2-6. No points, Even rating.

Calle played between those WJC-guys Molin and Lindholm.

Yep. Molin was bumped off that line though as the game went on. Molin is not ready to be a top 6 player in the SEL but I guess their coach wanted to show him some appreciation. Calle played an okay game, but I think Lindholm was a tad better today.

Our depth on D-prospects is great at the moment. Ouellet is probably the best of the bunch but right after him there is a group of Bäckman, Sproul, Marchenko and Jensen who are all great prospects, have size and three of them are even right handed shots. Right now I think we will have at least three solid NHLers out of those five. Almqvist is also making strides in a very important year and right now I wouldn't still count him out of the NHL either. Lashoff is also looking good and it will be interesting to see how he manages whenever he gets a try in Detroit.

Lashoff took a big step forward this season, still skeptical of him however.

Same. Hes an alright puck mover, solid defensively, solid physically and a solid PKer. In the AHL I generally think you have to be really good at something like that to make it in the NHL. He should start throwing his body around more ebcause when he decides to be hes pretty strong in the corners

Good points I am very positive on Jensen and look forward to seeing him in GR. With Marchenko the jury is still out IMO as he hasn't been able to string together one solid season. With Almqvist he seems to have plateaued a bit however I want to see how he looks over a full season in the AHL and hopefully once he adjusts he'll start to produce more offense. That's his ticket to the NHL as far as I can tell.

Whatever happened to Ben Marshall? He seemed to be doing fairly well at MN but I haven't heard much about him lately

He's doing fine, has a team best +9 and is averaging 0.5 PPG. I suspect he'll stay in college for the full four years.

Wasn't Marshall placed as forward on his team? Maybe isn't anymore, but might not be great news regarding his defensive prowess..

I'm pretty sure he's played some forward in Mathieu Dandenault and Derek Meech style but he's primarily a d-man. He was third on his team in blocked shots last year so being small and quick seems to have helped him get into some shooting lanes. I like him but I don't see him getting signed after next year which would be his junior season. I think he stays for the full four years and then probably signs a contract and heads over to Grand Rapids to start his pro career.

He is THE midget of the all our midgets with a 5'9 frame. I don't know what was the plan by drafting him, maybe they gambled with his potential height growth but there wasn't any potential left. At Minnesota Univ. site, he's still 5'9. Too bad, but hat's just unacceptable frame for a NHL defenceman.

Marshall 0+0, +2
Hudon 0+0, -2

I think one reason they mentioned for drafting Marshall was Almqvist being a good find in the 7th round the year before.

Yeah, and they probably knew that he was going to college, so it's was tactically good to have those player rights kept longer, if he's a late bloomer or grows more.

The draft system is kind of stupid, we drafted Brooks Macek in front of Marshall, and he doing pretty well at this season. 10th in WHL scoring 21+30=51 points in 41 games. But we have lost already the rights for Macek and are waiting these "marshalls" to pan out.

Thank god they extended those rights for European drafted players from 2 --> 4 years, I hope they would add an extra year also for North Americans. That system for Canadian juniors is somehow stupid. US kids usually go that college route.

I would trade these rights to Marshall any day to got those rights for Macek back. But it is what it is, stupid system.

Little over ppg on a Eastern conference leading team isn't that great. Solid but not that great. We could sign him anyway if we wanted but he needs to prove his worth before that imo.. at AHL level maybe. And we have logjam at forward for Griffins anyway.

His father is over six feet and they thought he might grow after being drafted. Such is life I guess. He was a reasonable use of a seventh rounder IMHO.

Eh, it was a late draft pick and he can skate and produce offense. He can also be used at forward. I don't think it was a waste in the slightest, he can at the very least be a guy who can provide depth in the ECHL or AHL. He's playing with some very good teammates at Minnesota and against good competition. With that being said I suspect he'll spend all four years in college.

Andreas Athanasiou to be specific. I thought this was about Almqvist when I clicked it.
