Are there any 4 players on one team that you'd take over Crosby and Malkin?
Pretty simple, any group of 4 players as long as they're all on the same team, including prospects if you want (e.x. Hall, RNH, Eberle, Yakupov or Begeron, Chara, Seguin, Rask) vs the duo of Crosby and Malkin, who would you take? Assume health issues are irrelevant. And you can't pick Pittsburgh for obvious reasons. :p
Also, specify which group of 4 you'd pick, and feel free to include what group of 4 you'd consider for your team.
Kopitar, Richards, Doughty, Quick. I need a bath now.
My team? Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, Hiller. I'll be optimistic they'll go back to where they all were 2 years ago. Of course, if I could REALLY go back two years I'd swap out Ryan with Selanne.
Foursomes to consider:
Edmonton: Hall, RNH, Yakupov, Eberle (3 1st overalls and a 76pt scorer in his sophomore year. Oldest player among them only 22 years old)
Washington: Ovechkin, Backstrom, Carlson, Alzner/Green (One player who has performed on Crosby/Malkin level and another who has performed at a notch below them. 2 top pairing defenseman)
New York Rangers: Marian Gaborik, Brad Richards, Rick Nash, Henrik Lundqvist (Beast top line and Vezina winner)
Tampa Bay: Steven Stamkos, Martin St.Louis, Vincent Lecavalier, Victor Hedman (1 player on their level, two top line players and a top pairing defenseman)
Vancouver: Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Dan Hamhuis, Roberto Luongo/Corey Schneider (Back to back Art Ross winners, #1 D and #1 G)
LA: Anze Kopitar, Mike Richards, Drew Doughty, Jonathan Quick (1-2 centers, #1D, #1G)
Chicago: Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook (#1 RW, #1C, 1-2 D)
Anaheim: Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan, Jonas Hiller (Top 3 forwards, #1 G)
Colorado: Matt Duchene, Ryan O'Reilly, Gabriel Landeskog, Erik Johnson (1-2 C, #1 RW, top pairing D)
..etc
I am in love with the Sidney Crosby + Evgeni Malkin duo, however it'd be hard to pass up the guaranteed to fill most of my prospective team's holes in one shot. I would definately take one of the above listed foursomes, just not entirely sure which. Likely LA, NYR, Chicago, EDM or WSH.
Think I'd rather have:
Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook
Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, Brown
Maybe Lundqvist, Nash, Richards, Callahan (McDonagh, Staal)- but that comes down to thinking Lundqvist is just way better than everyone else.
Depends on a few factors though, such as current team, cap situation, and whether center is a strength. If San Jose could fix their left side d, goaltending, and add two first liners, they'd have to seriously consider. Same might go for a team like Edmonton.
Coyotes- Smith Doan OEL Yandle
Blues - Backes Pietrangelo Elliot Halak
Predators - Rinne Weber Erat Fisher
Ottawa - Karrlson Spezza Alfredsson Fuba
Wild - Suter Parise Koivu Backstrom
Red Wings - Datsyuk Zetterberg Filpulla Howard
Really? I could see the others but Crosby/Malkin is pretty easily better than these IMO.
Maybe I should've changed this to a trio vs Crosby/Malkin, but I figured that one would be too easy.
Yeah, there are some groups of four that I would take over Malkin & Crosby, although there are probably none I would take over Malkin, Crosby, Neal, Letang.
I love Malkin and really have grown to like Crosby, and I think it's possible you may just be best off with the two of them, but I can think of some groups that I would hypothetically be enticed to go with over the duo.
On the Rangers (not the best group you could make, just an example) I'd have a really hard time not going with:
Nash, McDonagh, Lundqvist and one of Gaborik, Richards or Staal.

Why? High scoring 1 way forwards aren't very important when it comes to winning championships. I would much rather have top 10 goal tending + 3 other good/great players

Out of these, I think I would do Washington, NYR, Vancouver, LA
I want to add Tampa but thats just because I love Stamkos
I could always trade one of the two for just about any 2 players from a different team if I wanted to spread out the talent a bit more. Hockeythoughts listed the best examples, and I cant see taking one of those options before Crosby/Malkin.
Ovi, Backstrom, Carlson, Alzner, even with Ovi as a 35-40 goal scorer.
Toews, Kane, Seabrook, Keith pretty easily.
I'd take Bergeron, Seguin, Rask, Chara, but Chara is getting old... Still two #1 centers, one of them very young with lots of potential and the other a Selke winner, and a young #1 goalie.
Especially if you already have top-caliber players, taking Lundqvist, McDonagh, Girardi, and Gaborik would definitely work.
I'd definitely take Kopitar, Richards, Quick, and Doughty, no question.
Might take Wild package mentioned earlier, too. I'd take Nashville if they still had Suter, but it's more or less a Weber/Rinne swap for Crosby/Malkin, so no.
Subban, Price, Pacioretty, Galchenyuk. If Montreal gives these 4, they lose key advantages at three positions and gain a big boost in a single one. Unless the team can get a quality defenseman and goalie, it would cripple Montreal badly.

I think it would take more than those 4 to trade for Malkin or Crosby.
Easily Crosby and Malkin, chances are you have good players on your roster all ready so why not take the best 2 players in the game who are just approaching there prime. Your lying if you would take 4 players.
