It's a good base for a deal. Maybe Toronto can add a 2nd rounder?

Teubert is pretty terrible though, I guess he's just a throw-in?

A hard sell to both sides. Oilers fans will want to see Yakupov and Nugent-Hopkins together and Leafs will want to hang on to their young star. Both sides will have trouble with value. You would have to accept that typically top end scorers are worth more, and that Gardiner is still a ready to hit another level.

Leafs lose a bit of value taking the Khabibulin dump and a guy who seems to have peaked in Teubert....but I guess he is a "Burke player" and a bottom pairing guy. Really though, I think Yakupov would electrify that city and that is really the basis of the trade.

On the Edmonton side, Gardiner gets to play with Schultz and they get a couple of young depth guys in Reimer and Percy. I like Reimer's Cujo-esque play going to the Oilers. If you don't get some solid years from from Percy or Reimer than I think Leafs win the trade easy...I think Yak is that much of a sure thing. You might even argue that Leafs need to add.
Does the Oilers owe the Leafs a Christmas present ? The Oil laugh at this

Would love Gardiner but Schultz is looking better.
Percy is good but we have d prospects looking better, would be a nice addition tho
Dubnyk is better then Reimer ATM.

Not worth giving up the best prospect outside the NHL tho. If it was Reilly instead of Percy and Musil for Tuebert perhaps

Riemer is done in TO
I like Jake Gardiner, but he has a a lot to prove and he is not the key piece to getting Yakupov
and the olther guy was taken 25th over all in 2011

This post is so full of fail. You're about accurate about Reimer as you are about Gardiner. Go check hockeydb.com to see the 22 games. Lolllololol dude.

let me flip the deal on its head

Oilers trade 2nd rounder, Anton Lander and David Musil for Jonathan Huberdeau of the panthers --would the panthers do that deal
While I agree that the Oilers don't even consider the original proposal, I also agree with the other posters in saying you have no idea what you're talking about here. Even if Gardiner did only play 22 NHL games, this argument makes no sense whatsoever seeing how that would be 22 more games than Yakupov has played in his career. To be honest if we look at it from that point of view, that would actually make Gardiner more proven than Yak as an NHL player which goes against your argument altogether. Not trying to crap on you because everyone is free to have their own opinion but it would be wise to do a little more research before offering up such opinions.

The Oilers sure get screw with this one, other then Jake Gardiner there's not much the Leafs have to trade the Oilers would want. The Leafs don't have what it would take to get Yakupov, pipe dream here for the OP, Oilers pass.

I'd rather have Rielly than Gardiner. Toronto fans consider Rielly untouchable. Yakupov was drafted 4 sports ahead of Rielly. That's all you need to know about this.

Terribad for the Oilers. Ordinarily I'd like that, but not now.

not Yakupov. He was taken first overall, was ranked 1st overall by every major scouting service, and is putting great numbers in the KHL. Gardiner is a solid dman, no doubt, but no GM in the league would move Yakupov for him.

Leafs fan saying this doesn't even remotely tempt Edmonton to trade Yakupov.

I don't know if it's the lockout or what, but I don't understand why Yakupov's value is being so ridiculously underrated this offseason.

So you're essentially saying Yakupov for a top 4 d-man.

How am I not supposed to take that as insulting?

I don't even know where to start in order to make this proposal proper. Facepalms all around.

Do the Oilers even need another Gardiner-type in their mix? I would think if they were looking for a D man, it would be a good, solid, veteran d-man in his late 20s or very early 30s to help solidify the defense.

In this trade it would make more sense if the Oilers turned it down and tried to convert Yak into a defenseman!

Wow this trade is a joke. I would consider Teubert and Percy almost equivalent in trade value since Teubert has potential to be a physical 5th/6th defenseman. But the gap between Gardiner and Yakupov is huge, Yakupov will be a franchise player. Not to mention it would be a downgrade in goaltending for the oilers too. Maybe swap Percy for Rielly but otherwise this is a completely one sided trade that the oilers would never do.

Percy >>> Teubert (Teubert is pretty atrocious, even in the AHL).
The rest greatly favours Edmonton though, so it's a definite no from me unless something of value is added from a Leafs standpoint.

As an Oil fan, if Toronto added their 1st for 2013 I would take it.

Reimer is a great goaltender that happens to be in a market with very little patience. Look at the LA situation with Quick/Bernier. Competition drives results. Dubnyk has already won the starter role and I am certain he isn't worried about Khabi taking it from him.

And if we added Gardiner, we could trade off Whitney as a rental to a team like Detroit.

Teubert is borderline 3rd pairing at best. no real loss there.
