LA King Jarret Stoll told me tonight on the NiteCap that he is headed to New York for the NHL/NHLPA meetings.

So much for the undisclosed and secret location.

Agreed. People that don't care have all but forgotten about hockey. If your coming on the boards morning noon and night looking for any tidbit of information, and taking the time to post...sorry but you care.

Obviously the players are going to get a good enough deal to make that worth it... Right?

What do the players expect at this point? Stoll just made a quote that he thnks both sides are at fault. So when you're in New York, Jarett, SAY SOMETHING. SPEAK UP.

For the ****ing love of god, doesn't everyone think we should be watching hockey soon? This meeting is going to be the last go at it probably.

Meh. New York is a big city. So long as they don't give out the location, that's fine. I, for one, think they should meet at the diner that Seinfeld frequented. I mean, I would imagine that the NHL/NHLPA like to "talk about nothing" too. Seems fitting.

Also, I believe Fehr is against a long CBA because he doesn't feel like he should be bargaining for future players who are 14 right now. So much for negotiating for "the future" eh?

I wonder how a 48-game season would be structured anyway...six games with each team in your division and a home-and-home with other conference teams gets you to 44. Maybe an extra selected home-and-home with two other conference teams. You're going to have to play a slightly unbalanced schedule (or an odd number of games against certain teams) to get to 48 with just conference games.

but are you putting a dollar amount on contractual rights when counting the clock? stuff like max contract years and % and UFA/ELC rights are worth a lot.

im on the owners side but not everything is as black and white as we'd like to pretend

The argument is more that guys who are 18-19 and not in the league yet, the majority won't be playing long enough to get to 28-29 and the next CBA since the 'average NHL career' is only a few years.

I do think it's a ******** premise since most of this CBA is about protecting the future stars who WILL be good enough to stick around till the next one anyway. Most of the current stars already have long-term deals signed so they're not going to be affected by term limits in large part.

Thing is Fehr's last couple of CBA's in baseball were short ones so he's at least consistent if nothing else. But the league can't afford a short CBA and thankfully the players at least came off the five-year kicker and offered eight.

Horcoff said something interesting in this morning's print edition of the Calgary Herald ("NHLPA Still Feels Deal is There to be Had.", p. D4) He said that "Whatever both sides say, we are close to a deal."

"Both sides"?

Great - the players are losing their minds and going rogue.

(Edit: Sorry, can't find the article on the Herald website.)

"Both sides"? Is he starting to question what the PA is telling him?

Edit: Sorry, can't find the article on the Herald website.
The PA's the ones who've been saying they're close to a deal, the league is saying they're not.

Pretty much the polar opposite of an apology.

I'd like to know... What's the difference between a 10 year CBA with an out clause after 8 and an 8 year CBA?

There is no point trying to discuss the lockout objectively with CB, he has no interest in that.

It really is: The Olympics give the best players in the world exposure. When people want to see more of the best players in the world, they turn to the NHL.

Didnt ride the last one and dont plan on riding this one. Reading the play by play from the Fehr press conference it was way too clear where it was going.

I am convinced that the NHLPA want to hold out longer to 'get a better deal'. IMO they will drag it through until at least mid Jan.

I suspect there will be Thu and Fri meetings as well, with talks and tweets of traction and progress, and then it will collapse by the end of the weekend.

Why do people keep throwing around a 48 game schedule for January 1st? The Jets are currently scheduled to play 49 games in those dates. Cancel the All Star weekend, extend the season two weeks and compress the schedule a bit and you have sixty games.

Right - and to me Horcoff seems to be discounting what both sides are saying when it comes to how close they are to a deal.
