$3.5m in actual salary, for a slow, 3rd pairing d-man is still awful bang for the buck.

He gets a 1 year deal at about 1 million per IMO.

Lol, here it is. The guy is a goon without the toughness. That year when he got beat up by Lucic all he did was facewash guys over the linesmans shoulder after the whistle.

Komisarek's toughness and hockey sense summed up in one video:

PS. you can keep him. He sucks

Dunno exactly what happened to him. It's hard to believe a player can lose it just from getting demolished by his nemesis Lucic. Maybe the injury factors resulting from that... but even then. It's not like he blew out a knee and was relying on his speed in his style of game...? Maybe mental. Obviously losing the "perfect partner" in Markov is a factor, but I can't believe it's everything... he was genuinely good in his best days in Montreal, and a highly touted prospect and high draft pick even before that. Some of the later injuries in Toronto may have eroded things further. Complacency with the big contract? I have to say I'm surprised how it has all turned out with him leaving the Habs... I had really hoped to see him stay at the time, and I really never expected his dropoff would carry over and continue like it has. I guess the Habs dodged a bullet on that contract, they made a good call letting him walk, surprisingly.

But he's still just 30 and has that size that teams covet, so as long as he gets himself in great shape, I have to think he'll get another chance with a $1-1.5M contract at least. Always depends on the market, what other similar defensemen are on the market, what teams perceive their needs to be, etc. I hope he rebounds. He was a good player for us for a few years.

Make his cap hit $0, you will still hate him.

If you offered negative cap for Komi, I would still say no (implying he is forced to play).

Jesus

That's why you don't put a Komisarek - Phaneuf pairing out there to defend a lead. Komisarek is too interested in getting back at Foligno for owning him, and Phaneuf slips and falls and sits there.

Well, Phaneuf was pissed at Komi the next game. He laid him out in the pre-game skate. Great Leadership tbh.

I had't noticed Dion just sitting there. What is he doing?

This was a set play. Execution was poor from Crabb. He is supposed to lay across the net rather then just stand there trying to block it with his feet. This is why he isn't back with the Leafs next year.

NEver known a player to have as bad a "before" and "after" situation. One fight and he's an entirely different player.

If Lucic never does that to Komisarek, is his own legend as big as it is right now?

maybe being teammates with the guy (Phaneuf) who is with your ex (Cuthbert) was distracting him. He should be over it by now.

Just so people don't take this seriously, that was an accident and Phaneuf didn't hit him for his play (or lack thereof)

Not to mention that video is from the 2010-2011 season.

Of course.

Markov can :

Carry the puck like a boss
Pass the puck with great precision anywere on the ice
Shoot quite well
Cover his man, and his partner's
Skate backwards very well
Skate quite fast, and turn (!)
Hit decently
Block shots pretty well
Just, you know, play hockey extremely well

Of all that, the only thing Komisarek can do is :

Hit, if thats all he tries to do
Block shots
...

The rest he sucks (and sucked even before his injuries) badly at. Markov can ''complement'' pretty much any player, since he was a very complete especially those years were Komisarek was paired with him, since he was in his prime. He did not suffer at all from Komo's departure tho.

Maybe Adam Oates can teach him then.
