Third line scoring winger to PHI

This was recently from an interview with Hextall:

Quote:
Looking to add offense?
“I think Coots and Brayden we’ve seen some good signs in terms of stepping up offensively. Hopefully they continue what they’ve been doing. If G and Jake and Simmer and some other guys pick it up, G’s been through a little bit of a dry spell here, you hope that that improves from within. If we could add something at the right price, you’re always looking to improve your team, but we’re not going against what we set out to do in the first place. I’m not giving a young player, young prospect, young player, picks, we’re not going that route. We’re gonna try to add something for one year. We’ve obviously got Sam sitting in Allentown there. He’s an option and a pretty damn good option. At some point I would expect him to be back. We’re just gonna let him play day-to-day right now and let him go here.
There's no point in changing up anything with their top 6, but they need a better winger to play with Matt Read and Scott Laughton, who are only really being held back offensively by Umberger. Based on what he just said, it looks like they're looking for an impending FA just to ride out for the rest of this season. (and if they can't get anyone better than Gagner, he'll just be recalled)

Any offers?

I would do David "The Diamond" Desharnais 99% retained for one of those sweet music note jerseys.

We will ship him via fedex. He doesn't eat much, just needs a coach who lets him sleep at the foot of the bed.

Jamie McGinn from Buffalo will probably be a sought-after rental come deadline time. Will take a high 2016 second

To quote Hextall again:

"I’m not giving a young player, young prospect, young player, picks, we’re not going that route."

Really, Hextall is looking for a player for player trade. We have Gagner and MacD who can be recalled at any time now so if we trade a D, bring up AMac.

I don't see us doing much except trading a Dman at some point.

Chris Higgins just got waived. He was our 3rd line winger, and still has gas in the tank, just got caught in a youth movement. You could literally have him for free, he deserves to stay in the NHL.

If the term is too much:
Vancouver could offer Prust, Vey or Dorsett. But with picks and prospects out of contention, might be hard to find a deal.

Teddy Purcell at 50% is your man and seems like exactly what Hextall is looking for, but no young players, prospects, or picks? WTF does Hextall expect to give up?

P-A Parenteau and Roman Polak
For
Hagg, Gudas and 4rd round pick

-Hagg is behind Provorov, Morin , Sanheim and Gostisbehere in terms of overall potential. He is the Lesser of the bunch.

PA plays on the 3rd line, Polak is an upgrade over Gudas(only in the trade to make room for Polak)

By picks I'm sure he meant high draft picks. We're not giving up our future for an older player or rental. We're not in win-now mode. It would have to be either a player swap for Gagner/Umberger/Amac/? Or we add maybe a late pick.
I know that really limits our options, but it's Hextall. He'll find a fair deal, or we'll just bring up Gagner and maybe shift Read to LW. Konecny will be pushing for a spot next year and we still have the draft so we'll stand pat before we make a bad move.

Well, if you're looking for a rental and don't want to pay anything even approximating value, we can offer Rene Bourque.

We won't add any contract with term no matter what you propose, tho. And there's no takebacks on the Umby-Hartnell trade; you'll just have to deal with it.

Yikes, I was kidding, hence, the exclamation point.

But calling Stempniak a borderline-fourth liner is patently false. Dude is a second liner

That is brutal. Give your head a shake. Id easily take Gudas over Polak, Hagg over PAP, and we add a 4th as well?

Doesn't make a ton of sense. Just call up Gagner. He should be playing over Umberger anyway. And the 3rd line may not score a lot because they play far less minutes than our 4th line

You want Bickell. Plus size the Flyers like. Has had a tough time for scoring this year but its just a glitch. New scenery, especially in Phila would do wonders. Can be had for cheap and is better suited for grinding in the East.

Just try Weal on wing. He's just sitting in the suite, may as well give it a go.

^^^^^^ This!!!

The fact he hasn't played yet and the likes of VdV and Umberger are playing baffles me. Yeah I get the Flyers are on a winning streak and you don't want to mess too much with it but those two have been a bit brutal to watch.

The secondary scoring issues lie mainly with Gagner, Umberger and Read, all players with multiple 40-point seasons who have underachieved and could use a change of scenery.

The Flyers have had an available roster spot for well over a week since their trade with the Kings, and Gagner is still in the minors. Umberger hasn’t scored a goal in almost a full calendar year, with just 8 assists over his last 44 games dating back to last January. And Read was recently benched, hasn’t scored shorthanded in almost two full calendar years and has just 9 goals over his last 64 games dating back to last February. It’s no wonder Hextall is looking for a little help.

The only other options aside from a shortsighted rental deal would be to sign a UFA like Cole, Booth, Weiss, Ryder, etc. to a prorated contract for the rest of the season; to recall Straka, who is the second leading goal scorer in the AHL this season but will probably stay put with the Phantoms only five points out of a playoff spot; or to make another forward-thinking trade. Someone suggested acquiring Bickell earlier, but he hasn’t scored a goal this season and still has another year left in the $4m range, just like Umberger.

Read might be the only one of the three who could generate some trade interest on his own at this point. Gagner’s chances of moving appear much slimmer now, and would probably involve a multi-player deal or one-for-one with a cheaper expiring contract coming back since they can’t retain any more salary this season. And based on what happened to Leino a couple of years ago – a buyout after not scoring a goal in his last 65 games – the writing might already be on the wall for Umberger. He was on the verge of a buyout before he was dealt for Hartnell, and it would be an added bonus if he followed in Lecavalier’s footsteps and also walked away at the end of the season.

As far as who they could pursue over the next few weeks, there aren’t many good affordable options and it’s clear Hextall is opposed to trading futures for rentals. Maybe something along the lines of Read for Berglund, where the cap hit is a little higher but the term is lower, or Gagner for Grabner or Chris Stewart. They also need to clear out one more salary on the blue line, likely Streit or Schultz with MacDonald a long shot, so a two-for-one is also a possibility.

Well...you see years ago there used to be things called hockey trades. Often, it was a player on one team, getting traded for a player on another team.

I know this is HF, but trades CAN still happen that don't involve young players, prospects or picks.
