With the October 3rd waiver draft looming, the Phoenix Coyotes are becoming more desperate to move one of their 3 goaltenders, Sean Burke, Brian Boucher and Zac Bierk. It is believed that Nashville is among the most interested parties to acquire one of the three.
It is believed that the Predators would like to see Brian Boucher in return, but the Coyotes would prefer to give up Zac Bierk.
As it stands, the Predators have Jan Lasak penciled as their backup goalie, but they would rather see him play regularily in the minors than ride the bench in the NHL. They are also interested in Miikka Kiprusoff and Vesa Toskala of the Sharks.
Brian Boucher went 15-20-8 in 45 games with the Coyotes in 2002-03, with a 3.01 Goals Against Average and a .894 Save Percentage.
Unless Phoenix draws more interest from another team, they wouldn't be able to get a large return from Nashville.
Again, I just don't know. it doesn't make sense. Lasak has looked pretty great in preseason so far...Finley is playing better than we expected, as well...so...why would we send Lasak back down...thus robbing Finley of sorely-needed development time? the only thing that makes me wonder is that Flaherty received NO playing time, this weekend. if boucher was moved, at LEAST half his salary would have to be paid. Bierk is more economical, and makes more sense...but...again, i feel this is an unsubstantiated rumor.
