2017 WHL draft prospects

Who do you guys have as the top prospects for the 2017 WHL draft. From Winnipeg I believe Seth Jarvis should be a top 4 pick

I don't know much personally but I know a couple people involved with bantam age minor hockey in bc. According to what they said this kid who plays with one of Okanagan school teams is a top guy for that draft. Conner Mcllendon is think is the name.

Edit: This guy: http://www.csshl.ca/leagues/rosters_...ayerID=1359827

I didn't realize he was that small, but those are some incredible numbers he put up in what has become, basically, a major bantam league in b.c. He's outscoring guys who're expected to be top 2-3 round picks in this year's bantam draft. Maybe he's gotten a lot bigger, I have no info on that.

McClennon is nasty. Have heard great things, saying he is the best to go through POE in awhile. Crnkovic and Neighbors are good prospects in Southern AB. Heard Ethan Ernst is the real deal too, from Weyburn. Kaiden Guhle is a very good defenseman. Brendan's brother, up in Sherwood Park. Ozzy Weisblatt is one of my fav's from Calgary, hopefully he grows.

http://www.winnipegaaa.com/site/3333...4&Section=Home Seth Jarvis. Averaged 2.38 ptspg in the regular season. Unbelievable sniper. There are some highlights on YouTube if you wanna check him out

Either way 48 goals in 29 games is extremely impressive

Also from MB, Ty Thorpe. 70p in 36 games playing age advanced AAA.

This is for 2018 WHL Draft - but keep an eye on Carson Lambos (defenseman) and Eric Alarie (centre) from MB. Lambos is a very big, skilled offensive defenseman, put up 78 points in 27 games in Peewee this past season. Alarie is an extremely tough, large power fwd centre. He also plays football.

Sahil Panwar from LA has top 5-10 talent for the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
Chase Yoder from the Dallas Stars program is another name to watch.

A couple of prospects to consider from Alaska that will be playing AAA next year are Trey Whitehead and Hunter Strand. Neither have really had the chance to play against elite level AAA yet but both were impressive last year. Strand put up 95p in 37 games in a AA league with mostly 01s and won MVP at the KIBIHT t2 tournament. Whitehead is a good defenseman but I want to see how he does at AAA. There is one other person from AK but he hasn't decides if he is going to play AAA or not.

Random bump but Sahil Panwar is the best young talent to come out of CA or the west coast U.S. in general in a long time.

It's cool to see a potential star of Indian descent, tbh I had imagined one to emerge from the BC region first.

Also hows the talent in the CA region? I remember a lot of talk about Etem and Bennett being from that area when they got drafted but I haven't heard much from that region since.

California hockey talent is hit-or-miss. It's become a good source of USHL/NCAA talent, but it hasn't made the consistent breakthrough to producing NHL standouts. It's probably developed more players than we often realize though. California has developed:
  • an NHL star: Bobby Ryan
  • NHL regulars: Matt Nieto, Jason Zucker
  • high-draft busts: Jon Blum, Emerson Etem, Beau Bennett
  • TBD professionals: Rocco Grimaldi, Nic Kerdiles, Chase De Leo, Thatcher Demko, Eric Comrie
  • a once-hyped prospect: Patrick Khodorenko
  • up-and-coming prospects: Vanya Lodnia, Sasha Chmelevski, Joey Cassetti, Brannon McManus
  • a slew of players never thought of to be high-end NHL prospects but were great junior/college players: Brett Sterling, Gabe Guertler, Rhett Rakhshani, Casey Wellman, etc

A few problems that plague California hockey:
  • Getting the best athletes. California produces a ton of athletes in a ton of sports. Getting the top kids to try hockey isn't easy.
  • Over-concentration of the top talent. This doesn't just happen in CA, but it definitely happens too much. All the good kids in CA will play on the same team, which isn't the best for long-term development, or often leads to a young kid receiving unjustified hype. Or they'll leave for a youth team in Michigan (think Honeybaked) and experience the same issues.

Directors Cup in Manitoba was this past weekend featuring all the top 2002s in Manitoba. I was only able to catch part of one game.

Seth Jarvis unsurprisingly led the tournament in scoring with 11 points in 4 games. He's playing for the RHA Nationals hockey academy team in the CSSHL next season.

The kid is insane! His AAA highlights are on YouTube and I've been able to see him live quite a few times. Looks like a top five pick imo

He might be on a Jr. Kings team at Carmen Starr - which is the tournament I'm assuming you're talking about?
