Team Canada to use artificial light to deal with the "24 hours of darkness" in Ufa
Yeah but are you going to throw the sword at him as he runs away screaming for his life on the altar of Bobby Orr?
Are you implying Habs fans are slower than Bruins fans?
On topic: Ufa averages 23 snowy days in the month of December and 25 in January. For comparison, Edmonton averages about 10 snowy days in both December and January. Maybe the lamps are to melt the snow?
Is there a reason as to why this wasn't held in Moscow? I'm sure all the teams would much rather play there instead of Ufa (no offense).
Moscow is a piss-poor hockey town while UFA is one of the better ones. And after sitting a few hours in Moscow traffic, all the teams would be begging to go to UFA.
Makes sense to me. Isn't Ufa that town where the evil owner of the local nuclear power plant built a machine capable of blocking out the sun?
But for realz... It sounds like HC has a whole lot of people sitting around trying to come up with ways to spend some of the whole lot of money they surely allocate to this tournament. This is a pretty good example of the over-analysis and handwringing the WJC receives up here these days.

I dunno... Why Edmonton over Toronto or Montreal last year or Buffalo over NYC or Chicago the year before that? (no offense)

Because no one gives a **** about it in Moscow and it will gain more interest in Ufa. It is not like they will go out Partying or sight seeing ifit was hosted in Moscow or St.Petersburg or other Russian cities anyway.
Not much wrong with Ufa really, I understand what you are stating about Moscow or other modern Russian cities but they are going there to play hockey. I would say Ufa is a city of contrasts in terms of development as it is modern at times and still be developed in other places.
LOL at the original poster and most of the subsequent posers who throw around words like "ignorant" and "incompetence" ....well here's one for you, the theme of these pages is "irony". Spott's comment is irrelevant and at best not to be taken literally.
there is nothing objectively wrong with what hockey canada is doing, scientifically nor intellectually. Ufa has a median cloud cover of 99% in December. Not to mention Canada will be indoors or in transit much of the days anyway.
only a mother could love this much brain-dead antagonism from people who think they're smart.

So what if Ufa receives one hour of sunlight per day? Toronto and Edmonton get two hours..
i dont know whos more , the one who made this silly statement or the people who actually are trying to justify it. stop it, just stop.
Personal favourite was this "but if there is as much cloud cover as they say, it sounds like it could get kids who are away from home for christmas a bit down."

in summation, team canada is trying to adjust time zones and make up for a lack of sunlight (due to minimal sun time, cloud cover, being indoors) but using sun lamps.
it's not dumb, everyone has to let go of the Spott comment.

i can't stop all canadians from saying embarrassing things

like i said it is also used to ease the physical strain of time zone transition. a form of therapy. it's not as simple as comparing sunrise and sunset...you can't compare them, there's no need. the issue is changing so many time zones and needing to be adjusted quickly.
.........what the hell have I been reading???? Canadians complaining about a lack of sun......If Canada losses this and you complain that it is because of lack of sunlight, then I will forever use the beaches in Tampa as my excuse for not going pro. (Talent means nothing!)
If the Canadian junior players cant even stomach goulash, potatos, and cabbage for one week what makes anyone so sure that they will persevere when the going gets tough in the tournament.
Eating foreign cuisine is a true test of character and if they cant meet that challenge, theyre in for a rude awakening in the round robin tournament!
