You can make an argument for him being better than some of those players, but to state it as fact is just flat out dumb.

I think the Bruins top two centers are both in the top 25 forwards in the league. Both are not great "regular season" fantasy picks but both are complete, dynamic money players who have proved it in the playoffs.

Ok, so let me get me this straight.

Poster A says "Bergeron is not Top 25 because off the top of my head (ie opinion) the following are better."

Poster B disagrees and says Bergeron is better than these players on that list (opinion)

Poster C calls Poster B dumb for giving his opinion, but stating it as fact, even though the "list" of players that started this is totally subjective?

Most of those players have done nothing in the playoffs or came up short when their team needed them. Bergeron is one of those players who doesn't put up sexy stats, but he wins you Stanley Cups. He is flat out dominating the Hawks in the dot, and shutting down top lines left and right this whole playoffs.

So yeah Bergeron is a top 25 player if your goal is to win a championship. If your goal is to put up pretty stats in fantasy hockey, then go for a different guy, such as one of those guys on your list.

Crosby
Ovechkin
Chara
Thomas
Weber
Lundqvist
Stamkos
Toews
Malkin
Kane
Perry
E. Staal
Datsyuk
Zetterberg
Kopitar
Parise
Gaborik
Tavares
Giroux
Kovalchuk
H. Sedin
D. Sedin
St. Louis
Spezza
Quick
Pietrangelo
Backstrom
Benn
Hossa
Sharp

That is 30 players, and the only one I was hesitant to put ahead of Bergeron was Spezza.

Well according to many experts I have heard on TSN, CBC and the NHL Network, he may very well be the best "overall" player in the game right now, so quite frankly I think it is a joke that some don't think he is top 25. When you put all parts of his game together, there sure as hell aren't many better.

Betcha if you polled the other 29 GM`s, asked them to put together a team from scratch today, he`s on every list without question

Probably not in their top 5 picks, but he`d be on every one

The problem with Bergeron is that player perception is media (and to a lesser extent, fantasy) driven. Bergeron isn't going to be starring in highlight reels because smart, solid, and often subtle responsible play isn't thrilling, and doesn't attract attention from the majority of fans.

Now that we're in the SCF and the spotlight has narrowed, the media are all but forced to notice him.

It's tough to say how much the defensive effort negates the points but i'd rather compare him to other centers than all players. Comparing to wingers, defensemen and goalies it's not even reasonable.

I went with "Hell yes" because, IMO, he is an all around player, PP, PK, 5-5. Not many of the others that have been listed above him can say that, i.e., Crosby is called the best player in the NHL but his game is only offense. He's good enough to play a D role so maybe it's a coaching decision to not let him. Comparing players is tough but I know that I'm glad PB is a BRUIN.

My thoughts exactly, taking Bergeron's complete skill set into consideration he is a top 25 player. I will admit his intangibles are more obvious to me since I watch him so much.

Media and fans look for the 'wow' factor, and their list of payers is made from that perspective.
Bergeron is more of a steady consistent player that does a lot of little things really well, plays a solid defensive game and his goals may not be the prettiest but the timing impeccable (SCF GM7 2011, leaf series 2013).
A good team needs both types of players to succeed.
My take is if you are to make up a team with 25 players, Bergeron is definitely in the mix.

If this makes any sense, there may be 25 players in the league I'd take ahead of him in a fantasy draft, but if I'm putting a 20 man roster together he easily makes the cut.

Note: The above is an incredibly biased and slanted POV. I'd expect very few to agree with it and know the arguments against it would be quite good. Won't change my mind though.
I like this post.

No one will change my mind either.
