Predict award winners in a <50 game season.

If there's one thing I've noticed early in every season, usually within the first 40 games, you'll see some stand out players in the top 3 scoring for a good portion of the season who usually slow down toward the end of the season.

Kessel last season was leading the League in scoring for a bit. Anze Kopitar was on pace for ~130 odd points before finishing with 81 in 2010. A year before that, Thomas Vanek and Jeff Carter were scoring at near GPG pace for the first 30 game; both finished with 40+.

So, the prospect of a shortened season makes the scoring race a bit more intriguing for me. It's anyone's race if it's a 48-50 game sched. The Art Ross winner could win it scoring anywhere from 65-80 points. This would be the ideal situation for Crosby, who in his half season was easily the most dominant player in the League before Daniel Sedin won the Art Ross.

So, let's go outside the norm and predict the Award winners and predict their stats.

My predictions:

Art Ross Trophy - Giroux (20 goals, 81 points)
Rocket Richard Trophy - Ovechkin (36 goals, 71 Points)
Hart Trophy - Giroux
Ted Lindsay Award - Ovechkin
James Norris Trophy - Weber (11 goals, 39 points)
Frank Selke Award - Bergeron (14 goals, 41 points)
Calder Trophy - Baertschi (15 goals, 35 points)
Vezina Trophy - Lundqvist (1.78 GAA, 0.934 SV%, 35 W in 45 GP)
Jennings Trophy - Lundqvist/Biron (106 GA)
Roger Crozier Award - Lundqvist

Art Ross Trophy - Crosby
Rocket Richard Trophy - Gaborik (always a quick starter, he should take it in a short season)
Hart Trophy - Crosby
Ted Lindsay Award - Crosby
James Norris Trophy - Weber
Frank Selke Award - Backes
Calder Trophy - Kreider (another guy I see getting a quick start and fading, so this will benefit him)
Vezina Trophy - Lundqvist
Jennings Trophy - Lundqvist/Biron
Roger Crozier Award - Lundqvist

These are largely the same anyway. The only differences are Gaborik and Kreider who like I said, I see getting off to big starts. In a normal year I'd go with Stamkos and Ryan Murray.

I was wrong on Kopitar though because I remember people creaming their pants from his first few games when he had 21 points in the first 14 games.

Art Ross-Crosby
Hart-Crosby
Lindsey-Crosby
Rocket-Stamkos
Norris-Weber
Selke-Datysuk
Vezina-Renne

I feel in a shortened season as long as the star players are playing to their norm, reputation is going to play a large role in voting.

Kessel always seems to start the year off with a tear. A shortened season could help him to win a Richard trophy.

Good luck with that. The closest example of that kind of record is Osgood in 1995-96:

50GP, 39W(1st)-6L-5T, 2.16GAA (1st), .911 (T-7th), 5 SO (T-3rd)
2nd teamer, 2nd in Vezina. Won Jennings.

He also had three top-six defensemen that one season (Konstantinov, Lidstrom, Coffey) and two Selke nominees - Fedorov (1st) and Yzerman (3rd) - in addition to depth like Primeau, Kozlov, Larionov, Brown, McCarty, Ciccarelli, Fetisov, Lapointe, Ramsey, Bergevin, Draper, Maltby, Johnson, Errey, Taylor, and Rouse.

And Osgood is probably going to the HHOF. Lundqvist has a good shot at it if he doesn't implode, but the point is that a future possible/probable HHOFer on a STACKED team barely hit the W/L you are projecting.

Gahh seriously? Scott Clemmensen? How many starts does he get, and what's the minimum games played in a shortened season to get that award?

His best year save percentage wise was with the Devils in 08/09 when Brodeur was injured. He had a 917 in like 40 games. I don't think he's exceeded a 913 since.

No big deal, but just an interesting choice.
