You drafted Matteau instead of Trouba? Quite the reach, holy.

I don't get to hear much either. I am looking forward to Michigan appearing on the Big 10 network.

I am also glad to have a Michigan writer posting on him:

We'll see how they pan out in the NHL.

Better that Dumba struggles now and tries to find his game than later when he's in the AHL, or even worse, the NHL. Sort out the major kinks now while you still can. I'm guessing he'll play another year in Red Deer (or whatever team he possibly gets traded to) after this season anyway, so he's still got plenty of time to do so.

I liked Trouba pre-draft and nothing has changed. His offensive game is developing nicely and I hope his genetics eventually kick in, size wise (not that he's small 6'2"). I never liked Dumba at all. Low hockey IQ IMO. I don't think his game will transition very well to the NHL.

For me, Dumba was the third best defenseman available in the draft and still is.

I had Dumba and Trouba as the #3 and #4 defenders. Dumba is / was a little more boom bust IMO, but I always thought Dumba would be drafted ahead of Trouba. I was never quite sure why.

Had Trouba has the next best D,and number 4 overall, was hoping Tampa would get him. So I'll go with Trouba.

Trouba is one prospect I would overpay for. I see him as a solid number 1/2 in the future. Bomb of a shot. Solid positionally. Mean/physical. Good leadership qualities. BIG. Vocal. Intimidating. I'm not saying that Dumba doesn't have some of these qualities I just think Trouba's game will translate better.

Winnipeg is drafting skilled/hard to play against players... Trouba and Scheifele are great picks. Definitely heading in the right direction.

I would also pick Trouba here. There is so much to like to about him. His game compares to Weber a ton on the physical and defensive side.he is nasty, mean, good defensively, and chip in offense. He also has much better IQ than Dumba even though his IQ isn't great.

Jets drafted a solid player #9 selection, very good pick.

Trouba

he's just easier to project, Dumba as i've said on the ducks board is like a mini version of Dion Phanuef. i'd like to be wrong however

You were wrong

he's worse than Dumba

Kid is a real dumb-dumb on the ice. Low hockey IQ and low panic threshold. We're all going to look back 10 years from now and laugh at how there was actually a debate once over whether Dumba was better than Trouba.

Trouba is going to be an elite NHL d-man (he's getting pretty close already)

Dumba is a minor leaguer who needs sheltered minutes.

As a Canadian, this post is sad because it is 100% accurate.

I would exchange Dumba's passport for Trouba's in a second.

I agree that Trouba is clearly the better player but Dumba played reasonably well in the WJC and is playing very well in Portland. He has 14pts in 20 games and is a +21. I'm not ready to give up on a the 19 year old yet.

Oh good. I mean, it would be really, really stupid to make grand claims after only two seasons since being drafted, right? Glad you are very objective and smart about this.

We're not saying he doesn't have skill. We're just saying that, unfortunately, you need to deduct from the neck up.

I think whatyoutalkingbout is right and Dumba comes by his nickname honestly.

So you think Dumba is a AHL player in need of sheltered minutes? The 20-year old defenseman has topped out?

I'm not saying he hasn't but seems to me you are confident that is that case. 100%. No room for debate or questions. Done deal.

I hope I'm wrong and you are right. However, his mental lapses during games are just shocking at times.

You are right about one thing tho... I have judged him too harshly given his age. Maybe he can fix his game. I hope he does.
