Tech question guys : I just got an HDTV for christmas and I finally have it set up with an HDMI cable (provided for by Comcast) and I'm recieving 1080i and 60 HZ instead of 1080p and 120 HZ (what it says on the tv box)
Is this false advertising by the TV brand or do I need to buy an HDMI cable?
I've been reading up that it's really difficult to get true 1080p
Receiving from what? Cable box? No television provider that I know of actually broadcasts in 1080p yet, so the only way you are going to utilize it is from Xbox, PS3, Blu-Ray, etc.

oh okay thanks... so if I was to get a 1080p blu ray player, it would be 1080p on the TV because that's what the blu ray can do?

My understanding is that TV's with 120 hz smooth out the picture by inserting an additional frame between the others, but produce a "soap opera" effect that some don't like, myself included. I find it particuaraly noticeable/annoying with movies, but not as much with regular TV or sports. However, I've had friends who didn't really notice too much of a difference, or didn't care, so don't feel too jipped on that front either.
I had never even heard of Comcast cable until I moved to Atlanta. I had heard of the company but I just assumed Time Warner Cable was the only relevant cable provider, turns out it's not even the biggest in the country.
Coming from a neutral: ACC was looking like it was going to lose all credibility anyway if Miami fell short of the Elite Eight, which I would put down as a very strong possibility in this years tournament. So far this year the ACC looks like it has had only one championship caliber team, and that was Duke pre-injuries.
Miami will probably be a #1 seed by default (since the ACC always seems to get a #1 seed) but this looks far more like the team that struggled with Stetson, got HAMMERED by Florida Gulf Coast (who?!) and Arizona then the team that hammered a banged up Duke. I was honestly expecting NC State to show them for the frauds they are, not frigin Wake Forest.
There's nobody in the ACC that I would take right now over Indiana, Gonzaga, Michigan, Michigan State, Louisville, and Florida on a neutral floor. Possibly even add Kansas, and Cuse to that mix.
This year more than any other, college basketball is wrought with a bunch of above average teams but no excellent ones. Which means when teams go on a run (Miami), they HAVE to get ranked highly. Even if opinions on them vary.
