What a horrible story. It's like you can't be 100 percent safe doing the job you love to do or getting an education, very disturbing and sad. I don't know what was going on with the family or anything but this is just unreal. Children and adults alike all here one minute and then cheated out of so much of life the next. My deepest sympathies to all the victims and families.

NHL lockout? That's not even a footnote right now. That does not matter.

I hadn't even thought of this, but you're 100% right. This happening so close to a holiday that is all about the kids... So horrible.

My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this. I just can't understand how someone could become so evil. I just want his name to fade away so his (probable) last wish doesn't come true.

I have no words for this. Just horrendous.

Someone mentioned Dunblane earlier, and if I remember right that guy was a suspected paedophile who felt persecuted by the community because the police wouldn't allow him to start up a new scout troop after concerns were raised about him making kids sleep with him in his van during camping trips. He also lived right next to the school.

Yeah, I mis-worded that, sorry. My mind is jumbled right now.. trying to comprehend what happened while keeping up with inflicting reports from various networks.

While this doesn't exactly relate to what happened.. Yesterday, at the elementary school down the hill from where i'm staying, they had "Santa Claus" come in for the kids. The parents were there as well, and I guess two of the parents got into an argument and it led to a full on crowd-brawl. "Santa" stepped in to break it up, he got hit in the face right in front of the children. It's scary to think that with how that incident escalated so quickly (friends who were there said it was a matter of minutes until the fight broke out), it very easily could have resulted in the same way that today's massacre did.

I don't think that's the argument. Why give these lowlifes any publicity or any notoriety?

When the different media outlets tried to be first to get the story, they couldn't even get that right. On top of the tragedy that happened today (which I still can't put into words or even attempt to understand whyTF somebody would commit an act like this), a kid who was at work that had nothing to do with it will now be tracked by the media because they had to be first.

First grade teacher Kaitlin Roig, 29, locked her 14 students in a class bathroom and listened to "tons of shooting" until police came to help.

"It was horrific," Roig said. "I thought we were going to die."

She said that the terrified kids were saying, "I just want Christmas…I don't want to die. I just want to have Christmas."
Absolutely heartbreaking.

That thought crossed my mind earlier. I cannot even imagine those parents that have gifts under the tree. Not to mention the effect this has every year. Truly an unspeakable tragedy. I hope the media focuses on the wonderful children lost, even if I have my doubts.

North Dakota parents storming to Facebook(pages of our local media), proclaiming they will not be sending their kids to school on Monday because at home they "know they are safe".

This is sad and all...but for ****s sake.

Oh for bloody sake indeed. While a horrible tragedy, this is among the first in history. I can understand people of Newtown being frightened or traumatized but other States...

Wolf Blitzer: "We're very sensitive to young children in these tragedies"

No you're not. You, the rest of the hacks at CNN, and the rest of the media (CBS, FOX, etc) are just worried about getting your rating points raised by a few thousand households right now. These kids are changed forever. How about keeping a camera and microphone out of their faces?

No children should have been interviewed.

I know a guy named Ryan Lanza who lives on the complete opposite side of the continent and people are still harassing him on Facebook.
