"Do you think your righteousness
Can pay the interest on your debt?"
/Arcade Fire, down to business:
REMINDER: We are here to discuss hockey and the lockout. Debate is welcome, and encouraged. Be mindful that we expect everyone to be courteous and respectful -- debate like an adult.
If you post a tweet or a quote from a person involved in the Lockout from any other source it needs to be accompanied with a link to the source.
Please be mindful of those who come to this thread for information and serious discussion of the Lockout. Having fun is fine, but let's not clutter the entire thread up with off topic jokes and spam.
Let's keep it civil, folks. No need for personal attacks, calling other posters idiots, etc. We have no need for savages in this refined discussion, and you'll be shown the thread's door if you can't be civilized. Carry on!

Part of NHL's filing includes section requesting declaration that "all existing contracts between NHL players and teams would be void."
Yes, we all knew this. You seemed far to enlightened by something everyone else already knew..
So if everyone knows this then why should the NHL even bother to take the NHLPA to court and file an unfair labor practice to the NLRB? Since it is so obvious to everyone, why should they even take any action to defend themselves?
The point is that the NHL is justified in its actions, in case you have some ill informed posters springing up crying foul at the NHL's attempt to block the PA from dissolving.

Think the players are going to scrambling now to ask for the last offer to be put to vote? Just imagine how would they like to be paid by the hour for their performance.

daaaamn. ok, maybe i'm looking at this the wrong way. does that mean that when the lockout is resolved every player needs to have a new contract negotiated??

No, what it means is that, if the contracts are declared void, the Players cannot file an anti-trust lawsuit as there is no contract to base it on. The contracts would be restored with a CBA.

I hope the players that want to put this mess behind them and just play hockey are given the advice necessary to make the right vote that will benefit them.

It means if the players go through with decertification, the NHL is requesting that their contracts are void, and everyone would be a free agent when this thing is resolved.
ONLY if the players decertify though. And ONLY if the courts agree with the NHL.
