The NHL complaint also cites tweets supportive of Fehr from @Logancouture, @mattcarle25 and @ScottieUpshall.

haha
Players aren't allowed to tweet their support for Fehr? If that's true then why isn't Barch listed?

A LOT of owners must be praying to everything they hold sacred that their best players don't suddenly become free agents.

The NBA did the same thing to their PA, just an FYI.

That's not what the NHL are saying, they are just referencing these tweets in some way in their argument.

Absolutely insane. Looks like Fehr's idiotic tactics backfired. Doubt the PA wants everyone a free agent.

The Rangers fan in me also wants to know what the hell it was the Del Zotto, McDonagh, and especially Boo Nieves (not even part of the PA) did.

I have no idea where this is all going. Hopefully it makes for an end to the lockout. However, nothing would shock me when it comes to these two very stubborn organized groups of people.

It ended up working in the NFL and NBA, but this is the NHL and NHLPA we're talking about. With Donald Fehr as the lit match in a barn full of straw.

Fehr beat MLB.

NHLPA hires Fehr to "win."

Fehr meets his match: Bettman.

I doubt owners who have spent lots of money building contending teams want those teams possibly scattered to the wind. I'm personally VERY surprised they pushed for it. It's still a new concept, so I haven't thought of an upside to it yet.

Nothing other than living in NY and having different contract statuses it appears.

And we need context on what Mirtle tweeted. From that article LicktheEnvelope posted:

Quote:
In perhaps the most interesting -- and threatening, in its own way -- note in the lawsuit, the NBA asks the court to declare that should the NLRB fail to agree that the union's decertification (should it eventually happen) is a sham the NBA has the legal right to void all existing player contracts. That would be seen as "going nuclear" in terms of where the NBA lockout stands today.
I would imagine the NHL worded it similarly.

As others have pointed out already, this may never see the light of day in court. Chances are that they're more likely to strike a deal before they ever present in court.

They didn't do anything, they are just being used as reference/examples for some sort of argument made in the suit.

They are New York based, and the suit is being filed in New York.

I personally expect it will play out like the NBA, and all of it becomes moot.

This is the NHL, though...so who knows. Expect the unlikely.

We live in a democracy where everyone has a right to speech but some can easily be sued.

Lawyers know what they are doing so they must have reasons for not listing Barch right NOW.

People, settle down. This wasn't a surprise to anyone, and for sure not to Bettman/Fehr. Like the poster above mentioned, the NBA did the EXACT same thing during their recent lockout (sue to block decertification/void contracts). It's all part of the negotiation.

The players WON'T become free agents. That would be awful for both sides and kill the league. They won't let it happen.

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle

Part of NHL's filing includes section requesting declaration that "all existing contracts between NHL players and teams would be void."
wow. That's would be the ultimate trump card.

Hey! Subban doesn't have a contract, and Galchenyuk is not a member of the PA! Sure we'd lose Price, but we'd lose the rest of the losers too! And keep our younglins! Go Courts Go!! VOID VOID VOID!!!

If Snider loses Giroux, he might have a shot at Stammer or Geno too. If the Habs can replace Price and PK with comparable guys while getting rid of Gomez and Bourque, Habs fans like myself wouldn't bat an eye.

It goes both ways.

If everything goes to hell, I imagine RFA status wouldn't count. I'm just guessing though.

As has been mentioned, it's a low chance of everything going to hell...but you never know. This is Bettman and Fehr.
