Vancouver losing to Nashville because of defense depth? Does he think the Predator's have a better 1-7? Odd.

I couldn't believe his take on that, Button has definitely lost the plot.

We won't be playing any Eastern conference teams this regular season, so we won't be hearing from Hughson until we make the playoffs. And that's only IF the Leafs don't make the playoffs too.

I propose that "Playoff Push 2013" be renamed "Race to Hughson 2013."

Happy for Redden - stuck in minors for 2 years. Great guy and deserves another chance. He'll get it now.

Permanent alternate, not captain.

Horcoff is still the captain.

The Edmonton Oilers did some shuffling of their alternate captains on Tuesday, with Jordan Eberle being given an 'A' full-time.
Taylor Hall and Nick Schultz will also rotate as alternate captains this season while Shawn Horcoff retains as team captain.
Ales Hemsky and Ray Whitney, who were alternate captains last year, will not be this season.

Gomez could still have life in the NHL as a 3rd line center. He is still a terrific skater and his playoff pedigree shouldn't be ignored. I would think there will be a few teams that offer him a deal. Tough to gauge the dollar figure though, I would guess something around the 1.6m - 2m mark.

I agree rather go after him then trade Luongo to Toronto that gets us Bozak. I think a Higgins - Gomez - Hansen like could be decent. Gomez could fill in for Kesler if needed too. Low risk, high reward signing IMO.

Sub 900k I'd be fine with it, just so long as his cap hit is hidable in the minors.

Alternate. IMO, it's a matter of time - once Horcoff retires, Eberle is the best choice from where I stand. Big game player, arguably their most consistent (in terms of both skill and health)...couldn't pick a better guy.

I think most Oiler fans see Hall as the next C, though. Definitely goes guts out, but his propensity for getting injured is worrisome.

Sad but expected. A true warrior who gave it all on the ice (and that likely shortened his career).

One of those great, kind of under the radar decisions by Gillis to not extend Ohlund. Never easy to let that kind of organisation icons go but when it's best for the team you have to do it. Was somewhat similar situation with Naslund, and Salo too.
