Great list and not an easy choice but I had 3 teams separating themselves from the rest and they happen to be the 3 teams with most votes. Well done people.

Yeah, I'd take

Rangers and St. Louis over any of those

McDonagh, Del Zotto, McIlrath
Pietro, Shattenkirk, Cole

Potential's very high. All three are likely extremely good top 4 Defensemen. People tend to overrate non-NHL prospects at the expense of young NHL guys already on rosters, assuming that the guys not in the NHL yet have higher ceilings because the NHL players aren't the best in the world right away. It's a longshot if guys like Rundblad and Gormley become top pairing Defensemen like Carlson/Alzner.

Very close between Ottawa and Florida, went with Florida because their trio is more balanced and is considerably bigger/tougher.

Went with the homer pick of Detroit, of course, but realistically, it's Phoenix or St. Louis.

Although I will say in about two years time that Detroit trio will likely get a lot more votes than it has now. Smith + Defense = Ouellet. Hopefully he continues to develop that way.

Would have vote St. Louis or NYR if they were available, too.

A bit tough to not go with the one that has Karlsson in it. He's a generational talent. Having Cowen in there doesn't hurt either, but I'm not sure if Ceci will ever see the NHL.

This one is even worse than the first one. How can you possibly compare guys like Scandella to guys like Karlsson and OEL?

After all, he's had as many elite scoring seasons as Mike Green.

I think this poll is fine, there's a clear cut off this time, it's only 2007 picks onwards. Doesn't really matter that some of these guys are more developed than others as long as you have clear rules for who is included. It's not a "best d prospects" poll, it's a "best young dmen poll, players and prospects combined," there's a big difference there. The main problem with this poll, as others have mentioned, is the lack of NYR (McDonagh, Del Zotto, McIlrath) and St. Louis (Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Cole), clearly two of the strongest options.

My pick would be Ottawa regardless, though. Karlsson is crazy awesome, Cowen has top pairing potential IMO, and Ceci is a good prospect. Some of the other choices are pretty close (like NYR, St. Louis and Phoenix), but ultimately I'd go with the Ottawa trio.

Sorry, I didn't read all the original post and didn't see the 2007 draft and beyond part. Which would also eliminate my suggestion of Columbus. Columbus would now look like Murray/Erixon/Moore.

Thought this was still the first poll so voted Pheonix before reading OP but Washington first, then Ottawa, then Pheonix in order.

Took Washington, but I'd take St. Louis (A-Pie+Shattenkirk) over any of these sets of defencemen.

wow lots of good trios up there, also Islanders would be more intriguing if Hamonic were in it.

Ottawa has 43 votes for only karlsonn, Phoenix's core is all offence but sweet. Toronto's is not too bad either. This list will definitley change after this years draft.

No St Louis? Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk and Cole are all '07 or later, which seems to be the cutoff here. They would walk away with this.

Went with Washington.
