Red Sox sign Stephen Drew (1 year, $9.5 million)

The Red Sox have an agreement with shortstop Stephen Drew on a one-year deal, league sources told CBSSports.com.

@JonHeymanCBS: Drew gets $9.5M salary. #redsox

good stopgap for one year. drew is not worthing that price, especially after his campaign in 2011 and 2012 but nothing is wrong for one year.

Nice signing.

Spares the baseball world from the offensive ineptitude that is Iglesias.

All these signings won't help the Sox get out of the AL East cellar

Well, I'm glad Beane gave up nothing of value to get him and that he didn't cave into Boras' salary demands. Drew is very limited rangewise and is slighty above average with the bat.

i'm happy with the one year contract. money is money, he was going to get paid regardless. i'd rather they give him 1 year and overpay a little than guarantee a second year or have a vesting option when he's pretty likely to miss time.

it's not like he's blocking anyone. iglesias is awful offensively and their other shortstop options are a bit away. one year, stay healthy, then see ya later.

It's a roll of the dice. In 1995 the Sox made a zillion band aid moves and it gave them a division title. Maybe they think the same for this year.

Personally, I think the empty seats at Fenway scared Henry.

But all these signings of position players and they have arguably the worst bullpen in baseball and starters who can only go 6 innings anyway.

are the Sox going to put an end to that ridiculous claim of a sellout streak still going?
