Anibal Sanchez re-signs with Tigers (5 years/80 M)

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal

Sources: #Cubs in serious discussions with Anibal Sanchez. Deal could be 5 years/$75 million. #Tigers still a threat.

Anibal Sanchez has signed with the Chicago Cubs

And the #Cubs turn out to be the second mystery team of the day, reaching agreement on five-year deal with Anibal Sanchez

I'll hold off until someone legitimate confirms this signing.

Sanchez is good...but I don't get it for the Cubs seeing as they're still rebuilding

The rebuild shouldn't encompass the 5 year deal

The Cubs rotation will be pretty good if Baker bounces back from injury. Garza, Sanchez, Samardzija, Baker and Feldman make up a solid group.

I like the Cubs...I cheer for the Cubs as my NL team

They aren't anywhere close to reaching .500, much less competing for a wild card in five years

Cubs can certainly be competitive within a five year window, but the way free agent contracts work is you overpay for the last few years to get some value in the first few. The value for the Cubs in this deal seems to be all before they will really be a contender. Don't really get it. That said I'd consider 5/75 a great deal for just about any other club.

I don't see Tigers outbiding Chicago with Porcello still in the fold.

I'd say it's a done deal

Deep...as with the Red Wings, all he cares about is winning.

But Detroit needs to make sure they have enough to resign their own guys first. Which is why they let him go...especially after his demands of 6/90

But seeing his value go down, they might bite. He's giving Detroit every chance in the world to do so right now.

If Sanchez signs with the Cubs, it just shows that the only thing players care about is money.

I've got the feeling that the Cubs are simply being used as leverage.

Cubs have pulled out of the bidding for Anibal Sanchez even after they have increased five-year offer to $77.5 million.

Anibal gets $80M for 5 yrs w/ tigers as @BNightengale reported

Jim Bowden = no more credibility.

Gotta think Detroit moves Porcello and the 4-5 M he'd probably get in arbitration.

If Dombrowski was so quick to deal Turner, Porcello is probably on his way out too.

We deserve him after the game Sanchez' agent played with us.

Lol. 16 mil/yr for a slightly above average sp. Have fun with that contract, Tigs.

Also, lol at all the people who want Porcello. He sucks.

Porcello is young, improving, one of the best GB starters around, and likely to be undervalued because his surface numbers are gross due to the Tigers' awful defense. Did anybody know he had a 3.91 FIP last year, good for a 2.9 fWAR? I was shocked when I found out. For 3 years in a row, his K/BB, ERA, FIP, and xFIP have all improved. He's only 25 next season, a former very top prospect, and last year saw his avg fastball velocity jump from ~90 to 92. He's never had injury problems and doesn't rely heavily on his breaking ball, or throw a cutter.

Not an ace but useful young guy.

Advanced stats don't tell the story in Porcello's case. He's eminently hittable and the results have said as much for three straight years. He had a 2.9 fWAR last season compared to Jered Weaver's 3.0 and that's absolutely laughable.
